Fantastically practical video! No fluff, just plug stuff in, let it run. Now you know you system and it's limitations. This is what great inventors are made of!

I heard the siren song, too. In two years only one panel still produced power. In three years they were all dead. I have that inverter, too, but it's too small and only good for things like lights. Refrigerators, electronics and motors don't like modified sine wave and will run hotter and inefficiently. That battery is too small to do you much good for very long. Now I have 4 golf cart batteries, two 145 watt panels, and a 1000 watt pure sine wave inverter that's just barely enough to run a small refrigerator. The Mr. Coffee needs 1000 watts and usually trips out the inverter. Golf cart batteries run about 90 dollars at Sam's. There's a place online called DMsolar.com that sells excellent panels for a very good price. I paid 134 each for two. The Harbor Freight rig is good to get your feet wet and play around with, but don't expect too much from them because you will be disappointed if you do.

Wow that's interesting yours died. I have a 45 watt kit from the early 2000 's been working non stop charging up 12 v batteries and keeping them topped off since I bought them. I now have 4- hundred watt set ups to run my camper the last 3 years, non stop, and umm I have zero complaints!

Great video. You probably won't want to let that battery get below 12.3 volts or so if you want it to last.

Always good to get reviews on new products and specific shipping companies only one recommendation on your solar , and electrical, vernacular is inverters change 12 volt to 110 converters change 110 to 12 volts there you have it buddy, keep up the good work. MacGyver out🗿👍

If you are going to run a desktop or laptop a 'pure sine' inverter is important. My 1200 watt cost $179.

Lol that's going to be me. I'm getting the setup tomorrow and will probably stare at it for 6 months before I do anything with it. I remember year ago I bought this little 15 watt or so panel and hooked it up to a little battery, a little converter and a little light. Oh you should of heard me bragging when I ran that light. Calling people and going on like I was solar God lol.
@carltabor91523 жыл бұрын
So the battery ran all of that for over 12 minutes. The panels just slow charges the battery. I'd only run the lights and use the USB ports to charge my phone or tablet up. I'd run like a small 5 amp fan. Might want to invest in the Tailgator 900 watt generator from HF to run the other devices.

Started in solar in 1970's and did you know that 90% of solar panel failures have to do with fractured wires connecting solar cells? The cheap solar panels are all made the same - with extra thin wires to save on manufacturing costs. Solar panels experience extreme temps - very hot to very cold and glass actually expands and contracts a small amount- this causes fracturing in most panels after a few years. Solar panels are a long term investment- long term. Pay more for high quality panels (SunPower- US company) with solid copper back side connections and you'll get WAY more power and they will last longer. BTW - a 25 year warranty is no good when the company is out of business. Sunpower has been around for 30+ years- one of less than 5 solar panel manufacturers in the entire world. 86% of solar companies are out of business in the first 10 years - this is easy to figure out. BTW- I'm retired now and never worked for SunPower, just giving sound advise. You are welcome!

...I have 50 LG NeON 395 W High Efficiency panels (total of 19,750 WATTS),...with 3 LG Chem RESU10H (Lithium Ion) batteries connected in parallel (total energy 29.4 kWh),...inverters by StorEdge...30 second auto-transformers (automatic transfer from grid to batteries and back to grid "if GRID comes back online again")....monitored by a wireless monitoring platform...I have UPS on all of my electronics to ensure a smooth transition during the 30 second transfer delay from grid to batteries...yes, my solar system including my batteries were professionally installed and commissioned about 1 month ago...but I'd rather know I can run everything in my house, without limitations, especially in an emergency...

I have been trying to get a 100W panel to run my small pond pump for a long time now. It will run the pump in good sun, but my inverters short out when power in gets too low. Any suggestions?
@timmeier8863 Жыл бұрын
Bill my pond pumps keep tripping my inverter also, to me I thought it was a moisture/grounding issue, so I did other stuff off of panels that weren’t so sensitive to make up the pump difference,my situation allowed it yours may not ,good luck.

Your solar panels aren't providing the power, the battery is providing the power, all the solar panel is doing is trickle charging your battery the power is coming from your battery why are you saying it's coming from the panel?
@Hacklefatchet Жыл бұрын
I was hoping to run the pump from only the panel/ Now I know it is not possible. Thanks!

Very informative Video! Look, I see people using batteries with this HF Solar Kit and I get it that this will increase the longevity of running something but, can I use an HF 100watt Solar Kit, without a battery to charge my cell phone and run a 5 watt USB fan cooler underneath my Laptop pretty much all day? Guess I'm also asking exactly what the "controller box" that comes with the kit does. For now, I figure it won't hold any extra juice power that the 4 solar panels accumulated during the day, so when the sun goes down, I'll simply plug all my stuff back into a wall outlet.
@jeremydavis25955 жыл бұрын
No, you still need a battery.
@Goody2shzToo3 жыл бұрын
You can run stuff directly off the panels but as soon as you add the controller, you must have a battery.

You are running all those items of the battery and not the solar panels and that is why the voltage goes down. Systems have losses and you get about 70 watts out of one of those panels, you could consider yourself lucky if you could run a TV of one of those panels without discharging your battery. You should not run your battery until the converter or charger shuts it down because of low voltage, this will destroy your battery. You really need to get a charging chart and you should not discharge a lead acid battery below 50% which is 12.10 volts or you will kill your battery fast. Here is a chart for you. modernsurvivalblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/06/battery-state-of-charge.jpg
@ryanholmes98606 жыл бұрын
I think it stops at 12v. thanks for the chart
@FloryJohann6 жыл бұрын
If it stops at 12 volt then you are lucky. Most stop at 11.5 volts or so. Your welcome on that chart, it is helpful. It may say on the battery what the max charge and discharge amp is, stick to it to give that battery a long live. Also, if you do not use that battery for longer time discharge the battery and charge it once a month to get it cycled. I have solar panels that I use daily even though I have grid power. Also I have a UPS (uninterrupted power supply) that has 2 external Big batteries (60 lbs each) and I put a load ( about 450 watts) on it every 2 weeks to 4 weeks to drain the battery and then the UPS is charging those batteries again. The UPS is my emergency system just in case my solar power goes down. The UPS is a back up tool and comes in handy. I use renogy panels because there are way less inter -connections. Hf panels have 4 panels, so there are 8 connections before it goes to the charge controller....with the renogy panel there are 2 connections....If anything goes wrong, a system with less connections is easier to diagnose.

how many hours can you run 100w
@scbutler515 жыл бұрын
It isn't just a matter of the 100w panels, but also the battery and the wattage drawn down by whatever you are running. You could run a light bulb 24 hours a day and never run out. There is a lot more information needed in order to know how long you could run any particular device with this setup.
