Very interesting machine, which is also relatively simple in design. This seems to be ideal, especially for individual pieces that need to be adjusted

Awesome work! I might have missed it, but how did you deal with the Corvette's 120.65x5 bolt pattern vs BMW's 120x5? Is there enough 'slop' in the rotor holes to make it a non issue? Also along the same lines, what about the Corvette's 70.3mm center bore to the BMW's 72.56mm?
@RogueFabrication
@RogueFabrication 20 күн бұрын
Oops. Great questions. You're right about the lug holes, non issue. Enough slop. We opened up the center bore on a lathe and forgot to mention it. -Joe

I added a more in depth explanation to the description: "***We forgot to mention details about C6 Corvette rotor mods. The 5x120.65mm bolt pattern isn't a perfect match for BMW 5x120mm, but fits ok for us in our application (this is 100% NOT TRUE for wheel bolt pattern variation of any kind, ever!). The rotor bore was too small by a few mm, so we opened them up to clear the BMW front hubs by a few thousandths of an inch. They fit great now ;) ***" -Joe

Too much brake on a light car without anti-lock is a bad thing. Ask me how I know
@RogueFabrication
@RogueFabrication 20 күн бұрын
How do you know? Maybe we can learn from your experience. I'm aware pure braking power/capacity isn't the only thing that matters. You have to pick the correct pads that will get up to operating temperature in your application, which I think we have done (track time will tell). We also need to have the right balance of forces/components in our hydraulic system for pedal modulation (again, we will know in testing). I've driven a few lightweight cars with very large non OE brakes on the street and the track (240SX and E30 BMW). Both were a blast to drive once I upgraded away from the terrifying brake fade. -Joe

E46 330 brakes would have been more than adequate, cheaper, with less adaptation. NASA spec E46 race series uses factory brakes with upgraded pads and no issues. Albeit, less wow factor. 👍
@RogueFabrication
@RogueFabrication 26 күн бұрын
Yeah, e46 330i/ix is tried, true, and not very expensive. But I'm a brake snob, and I wanted some big fancy brakes! We're going to do endurance racing as well, and depending on our power levels and lap times, we may have been able to fade a front 330i setup. Now we'll never know! 😆 🤣. Also, these all have 2-pin pad changes (done in seconds). No bolt removal required. -Joe

I've been wanting to attempt this with mine...... just haven't found the right project yet? Crazy question.... could this be utilized for a hand rail on a spiral staircase (small rotational changes between each bend)?
@RogueFabrication

Yes. You would have to make the rotations small though, like you said. We actually mention that application in the written video description (we know that nobody ever reads those, and we typed a long one!). -Joe

Would setup and measurements used today be repeatable if all things were consistent in future?
@RogueFabrication
@RogueFabrication Ай бұрын
For the most part yes, but small things such as inconsistencies in wall thickness (especially with aluminum) and even large fluctuations in temperature can change your spring back, so it's a good practice to double check your numbers each time!

i was one of those exact customers (with the Versa) that you mention having the absolute worst success with 2" .120 4130 tube. New red hole saws or new milwalkee bi metals would have one great cut just like you in video, 2nd cut starts going downhill fast about halfway through the cut when it just wants to slip along the 2nd half of the cut and start to smoke er up. DOM .120 is no problemo whatsoever. hole saws last for 50-60 cuts easy. I am very experienced notching and have had your versa in shop for almost 4 years now. so not technique at all. I was also told at that time that the new black hole saws were coming out soon, and you guys even were nice enough to send me one of your first few black ones, a 1 3/4" and a 2". Sadly they were very off center and crazy wobble/unusable. I was told that the first ones you guys had didnt get some the weighted puck bases welded in line with the rest of the hole saw. I was told that I would get 2 new ones sent when you got the dialed in real batches that would be for sale. This was maybe a year or so ago and never received any. Not that this is your guys bad cause I never really checked back in ever either. But ever since we have not used your guys notcher in our shop for anything 4130. I would love to be able to give these black ones a try now that they have been around for a while. Is there anyone that I should talk to about possibly getting a couple to give it another go? I did love how they had all that weight feel to em. If all is good now we would be down to get back on the Rouge Fab hole saw game for our shop hole saws. Thanks

Y'all should make an adapter kit to convert a JD2 to run vertically and accept the mandrel attachment for those of us who regrettably bought a jd2 model 32 instead of the m625...
@RogueFabrication
@RogueFabrication 2 ай бұрын
That is a very interesting idea! Unfortunately (in this case) JD2 dies are "V" shaped. They are mostly round in the groove, but with a slight V/parabola/etc shaped in there. They are incompatible with mandrels since they pinch the tube in the bend. They work well on most thin wall applications. What are you bending?
