What a great idea! When my neighbour’s growing maple tree takes the last of the sun from my veggie garden, I can go vertical by my driveway!
@ggwtv7 күн бұрын
Vertical gardening can be a great solution for small spaces or anywhere when you need to get creative to find the sun. 👍

I read The Good Life by Scott and Helen Nearing many years ago and loved it, so it was great to hear about this connection. I am trying double hooping this year to see if I can winter over my rosemary in zone 6 in what looks to be one of our coldest winters!
@ggwtv7 күн бұрын
Double hooping is a great way to protect plants in the winter. Eliot lived by that trick! Good luck. 👍

I agree, Rodale Institute has been a leader in organic gardening for decades! 👍. I read their magazine cover to cover every edition. I was so sad when it ended. They had a big influence. 👍

Two items I use are fiberglass markers for marking driveways in winter, they work great in garden for staking and last forever. With them I use Velcro. I get a whole roll and inch wide. Using it in two inch lengths to tie up plants to stakes and trellises. It goes on quick, doesn't bight into the plant and can be reused year after year.
@ggwtvАй бұрын
Yes! I love using the Velcro tape for doing exactly the same thing. And thanks for the pen tip. 👍

I want to love this show, but… while the content is great, the camera work is nauseating and the constant underlying music is giving me a headache AND infomercial vibes at the same time 😢🤕
@ggwtvАй бұрын
Try another season. Season one had a camera style that was popular at the time but we moved away from that starting in season 2. The series has evolved a lot of 12 years. Not sure what you mean about infomercial though. We dont sell anything and PBS is strictly regulated for non-commercial television.
@PatrickMahoney60640Ай бұрын
@ thank you SO much for replying! I’m glad to hear it gets better. I’m trying to watch episode 105 right now and the interview with Will Allen is fascinating- but the constant music is just grating - and I can’t look at the screen because the camera is jumping all over 🤣😭 I think maybe I watch too much of the BBC gardening programs…

also fascinated by bees. I grow scarlet runner green beans and the red flowers are loved by bees. I have all black bees that have been showing up for about 3-years now and the really fascinating thing is that the bean blossoms are perfect for those black bees. Nature created a blossom that allows those black bees to land, pollinate and collect pollen, and then move on. I am pretty sure they are a variety of mason bee because I can't find any specific information about them but my garden is truly an ecosystem and that is the thing I love about it--nature really is a wondrous thing and I wish I could convince my wife not too have so much grass in our front yard!!
@ggwtv2 ай бұрын
It's amazing how nature perfectly matches pollinators to specific plants. Good luck on reducing your lawn also. I hope you are successful in that. We can do so much more with that space to benefit wildlife. Thanks for your comment. It’s a great reminder indeed to grow scarlet runner beans again. 👍

I like the show but this show has not made be a better gardener. It has provided ideas that I am able to integrate into my garden. I have always done things organically; no herbicides, pesticides, or chemical fertilizers. I always plant anything that will attract bees and butterflies and I have also had a lot of dragonflies show up the past couple of years. I also don't do GMO seeds and try to harvest as much of my own seed as possible. I have planted sunflowers and this year had great success with zucchini because the bees were abundant. I also discovered that bees love Scarlet Emperor Green Bean flowers and I know there were also solitary bees in those flowers along with the honey bees. I haven't seen too many monarch butteflies but swallowtail butterflies have shown up the last couple of years. This show is a great source of information and in my case, it's always neat when I am already doing some of the things that are shown on the show.

An excellent video. I am 72 years old, I have 4,000 sq ft of suburban Twin Cities, MN tillable garden, raised chickens for 7 years, and honeybees for 15 years. So much great advice, including buying high quality tools. Time to expand my garden. Most of my produce goes to the Senior Center, for those who cannot garden, and best appreciate my produce.
