Just saw this from a share on the Lines forum and only wish I'd seen it long ago. I guess you've put this stage of making videos behind you, thanks for the ones you created, I'm especially looking forward to what you demonstrated with the Cold Mac.

Ostinato is beautiful! what is the second synth?
@ENDOR4 ай бұрын
First is a Moog Werkstatt, second is a Prophet-5.
@shrekage5 ай бұрын
So how do you play it with other synths? Do you have to match the note by ear?
@ENDOR5 ай бұрын
Yes - this is covered in a later episode. You have to use a tuning pedal or tuner of some sort to match notes, although the imperfections of tuning by ear give the OVUM its character.

at 10:00 why patch the OR & AND outs to the FADE & Offset instead of just into the LEFT & RIGHT inputs to crossfade them??
@ENDOR Жыл бұрын
This video is meant to highlight various uses of OR and AND, hence this use. When using all the patch points and combinations Cold Mac offers, sometimes you have to get creative.

@@ENDOR thank you for responding to my silly questions, appreciate the insight

why is it a a no no to go output to output?
@ENDOR Жыл бұрын
In general it's best to avoid the risk of overloading or blowing a circuit by creating loops or excessive voltages.
@0neTwo0neTwo Жыл бұрын
isnt Slope normalled to the Survey knob and then also to the crease circuit??
@ENDOR Жыл бұрын
Survey sends CV to Slope, which is itself normalled into Crease.

I thought plume mode required teletype? Certainly for true polyphony
@ENDOR2 жыл бұрын
Basic PLUMEry can be accessed without Teletype. As you said, Teletype opens up polyphony and other options/features within Just Friends but is hardly a necessity in this case.

what CV do you have going into FM and RAMP during the "FM Percussion Addendum" and is the MIX from JF's still going through a VCA? is RUN @ 0V? ty
@ENDOR2 жыл бұрын
The Wogglebug is going to Ramp & FM, & Maths Sum Out is going to RUN. In that section JF is going to a MIX4, then to the output so just some manual volume attentuation.

Hi. Thanks for these demos. I’m just curious how you’re generating the pitch. Is there v/oct input? Cheers.
@ENDOR2 жыл бұрын
The TIME input is also a V/oct input (the faceplate marks it as V/8 TIME), so in modes like PLUME, sound/cycle & FLUME this input will control the pitch of Just Friends. In other sound generating modes an external VCO is required as a "driver" for the module.
@strangemobius2 жыл бұрын
I love Just Friends as a modulator SO MUCH but a lot its audio-out capabilities feel "circusy" as you once described.
@ENDOR2 жыл бұрын
I've found that I prefer using INTONE and RAMP to make absurdly fat detuned patches as opposed to its preset chord structures to always avoid the big top realness.
@strangemobius2 жыл бұрын
@@ENDOR Just in the standard osc mode, you mean?
@ENDOR2 жыл бұрын
@@strangemobius Cycle/Sound settings, yeah. The LPGs of PLUME get a fair amount of use, but I tend to work in Cycle/Sound then switch over if need be.

i lost it when you got to terraforming lmao, this module is insane
@Pteradactylist3 жыл бұрын
It Would be helpful to hear these cv modifications in a patch or at least see things on an oscilloscope. I appreciate the demo but this is really abstract.
@ENDOR3 жыл бұрын
If I had an oscilloscope that would be a thing. But regardless of accessibility to test equipment, I prefer tactile examples since using your ears is pretty important for music. (PS - the sounds are in patch examples or the basic motions are visible as is via the CV bus feed)
@Pteradactylist3 жыл бұрын
@@ENDOR Yep, ears are important for music. thats why I suggested that you have more music in your explanation of the module. Thanks again for taking the time to break it down.
@ENDOR3 жыл бұрын
@@Pteradactylist Thank you for your input. Coming in the next week or so is a video about a single function of Just Friends, so I’ll make sure that it has plenty of audio.

You will love the 4th video. The next one will be OR/AND uses, then we have a look at some cross-patch ideas, Surveillance and a technique I've developed I call Terraforming. We will explore how to de-organ-ize arborescent modular frameworks, generate rhizomatic interplay via a directly undermined desiring machine, and seize the directed gaze.
