Well, your enthusiasm for the episode was fun and I enjoyed listening to your ruminations a lot although I disagreed with almost everything you said lol. My biggest point of contention is that I think her descent into madness was way to sudden and unexplained and quite frankly convenient for the plot. By that I mean this is one of those types of episodes I see across many different genre's of fiction where the hour has almost been used up and there's no quick resolution in site. But they've got to wrap it up because they can't go over the shows allotted time. So the easy fix is to have the antagonist suddenly loose their mind for no apparent reason and now were done, see you next week. I have to say I don't like that. I feel kind of cheated. What if she hadn't suddenly had a mental breakdown? That's what these kind of resolutions leave you wondering.

The full impulse speed of the Enterprise leaving Spacedock in The Undiscovered Country is my personal gauge of how fast it is. I saw most of this episode this morning and yeah, it'll never be a favorite.

I really enjoyed this anyway -- both this time through and the other time I saw this Rum. That's what you meant when you played the remake, that it was only a port, right? Did we ever find out more of what the missing story is? (I played SoM as a kid but I wasn't nearly good enough to beat it. I have the Switch Mana Collection and do plan to finish that all the way through. One of these days, sigh.)

I found the Nog part of the episode the most interesting part. I loved it when Rom got right up in Quark's face and said he would burn the bar to the ground if he hurt Nog in any way. That was a great scene. I would have liked the whole episode to have been about Nog. 💙

Its funny, how i, a fan with zero creativity can think of a creative way to bring both Ezri into the show, and keep Jadzia alive: Promote Dax to Captain, as a reward for destruing the Dominion sensor array near the Argolis Cluster. Have Dax take command of the USS Destiny, whose captain is retiring, give Jadzia, and by extension, Terry Farrell the chance to leave on a good note. Have Dukat board DS9, sneak into the shrine when its empty, he darkens the orbs, the wormhole seals itself closed, Sisko feels it, at a critical moment on the bridge and passes out. And with Kira at DS9 and Worf on the Rotarran, Jadzia takes command, both jer and Garak figure out the weakness with the platforms, and the battle is won. Meanwhile, Sisko can still go to Earth to figure out the orbs, WITHOUT the added guilt of his dead friend.

The world really conspires against jinx at every turn. I wonder how much of her illness is due to her genetics, how much is due to trauma... and how much is due to huffing the fumes of blood magic for her entire life as an artificer Oh, right- lore correction. If the hex gates went down, it wouldn't be another city state coming to take over the place. There are some very dangerous, massive countries in this world that would take over in a heartbeat. I kind of love silco's arc. He spent decades hating and idolizing vander for his position as de facto leader of zaun, and now that it's his turn, he can't do it.

You're right, Silco isnt a crime lord. He's a revolutionary who believes that his free and independent Zaun utopia is just in reach. Similar to Robespierre, he believes that if he can hold onto power, he can reach his goals. A Reign of Terror under Silco, a Zaunite, is better than a Reign of Terror under Piltover.

So, we did the shows in an odd order when doing them live. So Arcane was actually done in bite sized chunks across 3 weeks, and in between during the weekdays we covered everything else. But obviously when uploading the vods I'm doing it in chunks, so you're getting all the Arcane stuff first here on KZbin.

35:00 Define "dark". There is dark as in brutality, psychological/existential horror, etc.. I have always viewed Star Trek: TNG and LotR as hopeful, uplifting, in contrast to the dark and gritty psychological undertones of an Arcane or Berserk, or the depressing realism of a Game of Thrones. What I would call all these stories is layered, wise in a way. Wise in the sense that they have a fundamental understating of the human condition and the human psyche, as well as certain philosophical underpinnings. They access a certain existential layer that is fundamentally and immediately meaningful to us.
