I would love to see a rumination on the major characters in Elden Ring. I know it would be a lot but you’d be perfect at it. Edit: just saw your Elden Ring and Souls streams and understand your contempt for the Souls community. They’re the most gatekeepy and toxic in modern gaming. But I think you would love the story and characters and themes if you really get into it.

What bothers me is not that this game failed, its that to suits this says: The Rogue Squadron franchise is a dead end, don't do anything with it. While to us consumers it says: Expect less from star wars gaming in general, and eject any hope of a new Tie fighter or flight sim. On a story point, i think its pretty funny that the old 'Squadron games actually hold up pretty well. They're all rote military affairs, with limited threads connecting them, maybe the odd ace pilot rivalry or comms banter.. and yet that works perfectly as a zoomed-in view of a 'day in the life of a pilot' military sort of feel. It's never going to beat the prima strategy guide for Tie fighter including a good thirty pages of great character backstory for your pilot character, including an in-universe video game tutorial where a flight instructor explains the game controls to our character and refers to an image of the ingame manual, but you know, we can't all be 10/10 experiences. There was a real chance here to do something grand. But it had to be written tightly by people that have seen combat. Give me top gun in space. Or a WW2 fighter movie in star wars. Give me anything with soul, star wars. It used to come so naturally for you. What a waste of good gameplay huh?

Man the ending of the story really pissed me off. I thought they might actually be forced into an interesting ending but nope, it’s just a setup for the multiplayer. Can’t pick a side or upset the status quo, just “go play multiplayer to continue the fight!”

The story in this(much like almost the entirety of Disney's star wars) feels like it was made by stupid people thinking they are clever and deep. And it feels like that because, that's the case.

I remember how proud one of the writers was of their they/them Miralan. Too bad it wasn't in a game with better writing, eh buddy? The multi-player in this game was pretty legit tho. Admittedly I mainly played co-op. Loved it when they added the b-wing, even if flew like a brick with fins.

The game struggled and then on social media they injected wokeness into it. So ultimately, worth forgetting.
