Wild fires are awful. Saw what it did to Gatlinburg area years ago

I drove up north of me the other day and was shocked by the devastation.

Glad to hear that you're still OK out there with all the horrible fires - hopefully that's nearly over. ...Don't you hate when they slap masking tape IDs on 45s - I don't mind the mailing address stickers though - it's always interesting to see where the record once came from! ...I've never seen that Robins 78 - cool label! ...I do have a nice copy of the Esquivel LP though! I think my copy is mono... Did find a few beautiful condition (NM) Les Baxter LPs this past year - all stereo. ...Recently found Wendy Carlos's electronica version (NM) of "A Clockwork Orange" which I had never known of before - high value according to Discogs! ...Take care!

I'm still out looking for records. Hopefully things become more normal soon. it's going to be a long road to rebuild Altadena and the Palisades.

I see it at antique malls as well -- people have records that are dirty, beat up, with no outer and often no inner sleeve, that have been stored horizontally in a box in a basement for decades. They don't know how to store, organize, or care for their records, but they sure know how to look up prices on the Internet. Also, we'll understand if you skip a week with more important issues than records to deal with.
@MikeFindsThings4 күн бұрын
I've never found an antique mall that had good prices on records. They're always high Discogs or more for beat up records.
@RekkidTalk4 күн бұрын
@@MikeFindsThings I do find good prices, sometimes. Of course, if a vendor puts out a box of desirable LPs at fair prices, they sell quickly, while the overpriced and the crap stay forever. I think there are more antique mall deals in 45s, if you can find a box where everything is a dollar because the seller doesn't know and you can find the rockabilly/garage/northern soul before someone else who knows what to look for. I'm guessing L.A. must be so competitive for finding records or anything collectible.

Clockwork Orange didn't actually get banned in UK, Kubrick withdrew it soon after release because of an assault that seemed to possibly be inspired by the film. To be fair it could have been a case of Kubrick withdrawing it before it got banned.
@MikeFindsThings4 күн бұрын
I'd always heard for years that the only way to see it in the UK was a bootleg VHS copy.

Glad that you're OK but please keep alert and prepared for any sudden changes! ...I remember the name Thompson Twins but never really liked 80's dance/synth music such as that (or Tears For Fears and other feminine male bands such as Wham) so don't even pick them up no matter how cheap they are. If that kind of stuff is in a large lot I'm purchasing I usually donate them because I don't have any buyers who seem to want them. I'm sure many people like that type of music, though. Music sure improved in the 90's but did not know "Da Da Da" but the VW commercial is especially annoying... The Ike & Tina "LIve!" LP is great - need to find that one someday out in the wild - the best of the batch for me! ...Love all Ventures LPs! Also, early X too but never heard their later material... I thought the Z band would be Zebra! ...Again, stay safe out there!

Hi 👋 im viewing from New Zealand. Good 45 rpm records there. Stax recording label had many artists with them , the Staple Singers probably being their most popular group signed to the label. I purchased recently a cd titled Ian Levines Solid Stax Sensations. Ian Levine a Soul music DJ showcasing his favorite Stax / Volt soul tracks. It has 25 songs on it from the late 1960s and early 1970s. Excellent cd. I'm listening to as I'm messaging you the Chambers Brothers soul music from the 1960s. They had a hit with a song called Time has come Today. You might know them. I like the Temptations i was young in the 1960s , i was also into the Four Tops and Smokey Robinson and the Miracles. Happy New Year from Carl.

When I check prices on discogs with my PC they never even show prices under a buck or so - wonder why but glad they don't... I also recently found a nice copy of that Yardbirds 45 at the GW store but left a used copy of the Soul Survivors because I already have multiple copies. ...Have you ever found a copy of The Detroit Wheels 45, "Linda Sue Dixon"? It's a great but rare LSD song! My copy is a WLPromo... I also found a copy of that Davie Allan/Arrows 45 at GW but it's on Canadian Capitol and is credited as by The Arrows. Strange! ...Have a Happy New Year, all! 🎆

The Damned on that 80s MCA rainbow label that I associate with endless mainstream country records, nice! I bought a couple of boxes of 45s in an auction - mostly mainstream country & pop from the 60s through early 80s, all in good shape, but I did find a record by The Sonics. Well, it was by a group from Louisville, Kentucky called The Sonics that was an early 1960s instrumental rock group, not the more famous garage band. I got a few other obscure Kentucky records local to the area as well.
@MikeFindsThingsАй бұрын
There's a lot of common stuff of various genres on that MCA label. Great to find the Dammed. If I ever start traveling to car shows out of the area I would love to look for local artists I wouldn't run across in SoCal.

Hi MIke, really enjoy your channel because I'm into old records too. Vernon Dalhart's 78 is actually a double "A" side record withThe Prisoner's Song charting at #1 for 5 weeks in 1925 starting on 3/221/25 and is the biggest selling non-holiday record for the pre-1955 era.
