Dude, it is INSANE just how much they cleaned this show up between this and finals. Their finals run was absolutely spotless, you really had to struggle to hear any hit or find any line that wasn’t absolutely perfect

**What is really going on with Crown this year!!!??? As a drummer I'm so disappointed in the percussion efforts.... Not even Top 5!!!!! Really???? Blue Coats and Boston Crusaders both have Catchy memorable Moments in their shows....... But Crown got nothing! Not even a Brass moment that really Stands Out, Who's responsible for this MESS???***

I will always love Crown's music and of course the brass, but they are going to have to do some serious cleaning to even get past Boston this year. Bloo and the Crusaders came out swinging. Bloo already over 95 points with 1 week left to clean!? I hope the final is an absolute DOOZIE!!

I saw the Mandarins perform the 20th at the dci southwestern comp and safe to say I absolutely LOVED this show!!! It was fantastic, and the color scheme and design was just amazingly amazing! 😍

this was my first time watching dci and !!!!!!!!!!!! i am still thinking about it too much our school hosted the cavaliers rehearsal it's such an experience to watch all of these bands in person

I went to the Denton show and Boston was by far the best sounding corps. Their audio engineers really have the speaker amp and mixing figured out. Bloo was definitely a stronger hornline but all the other corps sounded very "noisy", likely due to electrical noise in the analog amplifier, resulting in lower SNR (signal to noise ratio) compared to Boston.

@@jonb7700 that’s a bit extreme. Amplification has its merits. At the box the extra noisiness gets drowned by the noise floor so the difference is negligible. I sat pretty far forward right in front of the speaker, so it was much more noticeable especially at louder moments. Boston sounds fkn brilliant with amplification, other corps just need to catch up. I think in general it makes for more enjoyable listening experience, and is very quality of life for the corps.

One thing that’s insane to me how in the beginning of the ballad the hornline is all on side 1, and the battery is on the back sideline side 2 end zone, and perfectly in time. The music is easy but the listening environment is hard as shit

@ChristopherNelson42 absolutely! Same with the giant form the hornline is in during the ballad. Pretty simple musically, but a full 80 yard spread. Such a difficult show to achieve and they do it effortlessly!

I love that they brought John Mackey in into compose the closer. Before I saw this live last night I listened to the wind ensemble version of this piece. In general, it sounds like a wash of sound. although every member was as accurate as they could’ve been, the composition feels unbalanced. Whenever I heard it live, I had the same reaction. Crown is doing an amazing job playing the piece, but they have to rearrange quite a bit before finals for it to feel cohesive. The horn line is super solid and I’m looking forward to seeing them again finals night

I, too, agree. Mackey writes some incredible wind ensemble pieces, but that’s what it is… wind ensemble. For the notoriety that crown brass has, there’s lots of potential for musical expansion. It definitely could’ve been arranged better to suit the technicality that crown brass is known for. The brass line is too good for this style of music and there’s a BIG difference from the opener to the closer. Definitely unbalanced.
