I know you did this 3 years ago but what part of a piece of wood burns last? The middle for the most part. The same principle applies to chips. If it don't break up it's the center of the chip . Where is the gold in an IC chip? It must be total ash or you WILL loose gold. . AR or not, your not getting that gold out. You have 3 options, grind it to powder by hand, wet ash with concentrated sulfuric or burn it again. I currently have about 15 lbs of them. Built a custom rotisserie kiln to tumble the chips as they burn. Steel pan in the bottom to catch the ash. Yet after extensive testing, I'm wet ashing the entire 15 lbs. Nothing will get the gold out like wet ash. I did, hold your breath, 7 gold corner BGA chips, wet ash. Gold recovered from the 7 chips .41 grams. Other methods not even close. Pitiful, .2, .15, .25

I've been doing this for over 10 years, examined more flat packs then I care to count (The Chunky / thick Ones). I do it by wet ashing. Very few have gold in them. Conclusion: Only Gold is soft enough to produce super thin bonding wires. If you use copper, silver or aluminium bonding wires they will be thicker wires. . So they have to make a thicker pack to encase the thicker wires. I dont even remove them from boards anymore. Their not worth the effort. With that being said, I check everything one type of chip at a time multiple ways before I go for the gold

I was watching e waste ben video "Gold button from Ram stick fingers" Have a look at 9:20 where his melted gold is tested it shows that there is 3.45% gold in RAM fingers. On the screen it says plus or minus 0.17% so results may vary. I did some maths using his results and one kg of RAM sticks would yield 0.41 grams of gold and if you wanted one troy once of gold you would need 4995 RAM sticks. I tried using the soldering iron but my hand started to hurt so I used tin snips to cut the fingers off and then dumping them into HCL without using peroxide as it is expensive. Using a fish tank bubbler it takes 5-7 days for all the finger to come off. I would never go back to using a soldering iron. I do have lots of fingers from using the soldering iron and doing a separate experiment to see if the 3.45% is really accurate in e waste ben video.

Instead of wasting the fiber boards due to low yield, have a stock pot sitting off to the side with vinegar and salt in it and keep tossing those in there! Just let it sit forever and do its thing, maybe refresh the mixture every once in a while :) it should eventually loosen up off the fiber board with zero effort. Just time

I noticed two differences in the way you make stanis... First you cook it... And second you filter it.. I believe that has something to do with how long it lasts... The eBay refiner seems to leave the excess tin in the solution
@prospectorpete
@prospectorpete Ай бұрын
lol , yeah leaving a bit of tin in the solution is meant to make it last longer . the very first time i made stannous i used tin granuals , and the recipe i followed said to add a couple of granuals to the stannous . but i found using solder in this method and using containers that dont let sunlight in helps it to last longer. the ebay refiner also uses stannous powder which is why his is a creamy yellowish colour. mine is definately cheaper and easier
