I think the point of rice and beans is they are staples.. You can stretch them way further by adding small things to them like sauteed veg, a little bit of meat (even 2 or 3 ounces) , etc. That takes them from boring to pretty good, you get way more mileage out of them for not much more money

You're supposed to use dry pinto beans and enriched white rice. Buy them in bulk. That's the cheapest diet ever. You can add popcorn and grits too. Pasta, potatoes, and bananas don't quite make the cut.

Yes. Eating out for lunch & dinner 5x a week really adds up fast. This is a great thing to do for one week a month. Whatever you save, put it away & see that nest egg grow.

Found this by searching bean diet as I'm in a financial pickle and have been living on bean salad for the last 3 days and have another few days to go until payday. If anyone else is in a similar situation, if you have a dressing (or olive oil and some sort of vinegar plus seasoning and mustard etc to make one) in the cupboard it really makes such a difference to the taste and provides some healthy fat :) Also add anything you might have in the cupboard to up the flavour - I added capers - yum!

I always make sure to add onion tomato, pepper, lime, and meat. Very satisfying even without the rice. Also, you monster! You poured out the bean juice!

It’s really not as incomplete as you may think, your body just isn’t accustomed, your mind is talking but your body is smart and you just living your life you’re gonna get everything you need, this is a fasting phase so it doesn’t love the discipline however that eye opening phase you’re about to come on can change your entire perspective on life. You’ll have no tolerance for ignorance.

Beans have tons of protein that is a Fact...plus eating beans and rice is what people around the world eat and it's good....if you buy dry lentils and cook them they are really good, then you can add spice like garlic and onion powder which is cheap and makes beans taste great and some salt while they are cooking, if you like Indian food you can also add some curry powder too...Lentils take about 30 mins. to cook, the fastest bean you can cook because they are so small. a whole pound costs a little over a dollar... Good video for those who need or want to save money and eat healthy....btw, to me pinto beans are the least best tasting beans of all...lentils are Way better tasting.

Maybe a one litre water bottle for drinking one. 3/4 fill and into freezer till it freezes. Excellent workout.

I'm currently working on the beans and rice challenge and every time I got a craving for a soda I replaced that craving of soda with coconut water it seems really healthy and flavourful enough to break up the monotony of just drinking water and having plain beans and rice.

@Espi one can of 8oz coconut water (wild harvest) has 0 added sugar. 10g of sugar. (Which is from the natural fruit) A can of Pepsi 12oz has 41g added sugar. Also not consuming any added sugars as part of my lifestyle change. I've lost 10lbs in 30 days. I had to reduce salt due to higher blood pressure. So I decided to cut out all the junk. It's going very well.

Eating just beans and rice is deficient in vitamin C. You must have vitamin C or you will get scurvy.

@@simonbelmont1986 Per serving: black beans have none, pinto beans have 1% of the recommended daily requirement, kidney beans are best with 65% of what you need per day. Dried rice has no vitamin C.

just a budget tip. Dry beans are about one tenth the price of canned beans. As I was watching this guy try to make dry beans I was like NOOOO. MORE water...MORE Water at every step. There is a learning curve to making a good cooked bean. But in the end they taste better, you wont get Alzheimers from the tin cans and you can afford 10 x as much food for the same price

Get you the pre-seasoned cooked Goya beans omg its so good. it has cilantro, tomato sauce seaoning in olive oil it tastes as if you cooked it from scratch like home cooked meal. Quick minute rice is so much quicker with same results. those two combined alone you'll love it.

oh and you can make seasoned rice by sauteing the bottom with a little oil, garlic cloves sazon and sofrito. Or make it Jollof rice (African style) I grew up on rice n beans as a staple for weeks. but so much better when its full of flavor
