As he is not an artist , he is not able to assess the value of artworks. So better for him to not speak.

Those who are interested in art, enough to bother seeing or hearing what critics have to say, need to be attracted to it all. Without that 'hook' the audience slips away. One hook that nearly everyone goes for is 'perceived value equals real value'. So, no wonder that so much press is devoted to that tiny fraction of art superstars. When there is so much confusion about how to see or interpret art, it is easy to see why they go for the hackneyed proxy perceived value line. However, art that is easily perceived as fascinating (therefore valuable) can be openly and enthusiastically criticized because there is something there ... there. There is no need to argue about how to place value and attention on it.

As an artist myself, I'd say in the end, the galleries still have most of the power! As long as there are mega galleries, it'll stay that way!

Of course, the smartest artists would have what it takes to put together a team of advisors to run a country (if they were interested in an all-access project). This would actually improve certain things and not just change them. All weapons would disappear. The Defense Forces would be renamed the Refinement Forces. I'm a damn dreamer, you bet!

One thing has to be admitted: The girls try their best not to say anything. New artists, that's a joke, they're babies that are now being shaped for the market. The last generation of artists that had something to say was the generation that started in the 90s (their gallerists were the same generation). What they had in mind was never eloquently integrated into the economy. By this I mean that politics could be equipped with the paradigms of critical art. Art should not follow politics, art should do politics.

Very nice summary of some of the history of western museums and galleries. If the white cube is no longer relevant, what is the alternative? If critics and curators are irrelevant and art doesn't sell and is not a good investment, why continue to do art? I often think about art made in the Renaissance and Baroque periods where a lot of art was commissioned by wealthy (religious) patrons. Now art is produced solely from the ideas of the artist without being filtered through the wants and needs of the patron. So where are we now?

How does an art advisor fire a client? between them and the galleries, the egos are so ridiculous. Thats why as an artist, I would never use them. I'm not your employee, I hire you or we are engage in a business partnership. the artist don't need you. You need the artists.

Yes, an art gallery can be considered an institution. Institutions are generally defined as established organizations or systems with a particular purpose, and art galleries certainly fit that definition. Art galleries typically have a specific mission, whether it be to showcase a particular type of art, support emerging artists, or educate the public about art. Moreover, art galleries often have a physical location, a staff of employees, and a set of rules and procedures for how they operate. They may also have a board of directors or trustees who oversee their activities and ensure that they are fulfilling their mission. All of these elements are characteristic of institutions, and thus art galleries can be considered as such.
