Caribbean Aqua-Terrestrial Solutions (CATS)

Caribbean Aqua-Terrestrial Solutions (CATS) was a regional development program between Germany and the Caribbean Community (CARICOM). It brought together two financially independent Caribbean programs under the umbrella of CATS, namely (1) Management of Coastal Resources and Conservation of Marine Biodiversity (Objective: The management of existing marine protected areas (MPAs) in selected CARICOM Member States is improved), and (2) Adaptation of Rural Economies and Natural Resources to Climate Change (Objective: The adaptive capacity of rural economies, in particular with regards to agriculture and forestry, was enhanced). To adequately address the multi-dimensional and multi-scale complex challenges in the Caribbean, an aqua-terrestrial or ridge-to-reef approach to natural resources management and biodiversity conservation was pursued. In 2016, the two programs were merged into one titled 'Improving Climate Resilience from Ridge-to-Reef', which ended in 2021.
