I use a boat anchor

in a pinch that will do. I have cheap copies of maxx traxx. I als Good job.o have a Redrock ground anchor. But any technique is valid if it works. good job.

Not if your spare tire is underneath your bed of your bottomed out truck, keep that in mind people a tire rack in the bed of your truck can be very beneficial.

The easiest and best way in the sand is to make the (tire pressure PSi) 15PSI, and the car will run easily and without damage to the engine and gearbox, in the long run.

Cool trick in a pinch for sure. I've used a blade style boat anchor many times over the years to get out of sand. I used to have a 2wd pickup now with 4x4 I rarely need it.

These tires are just crap in wet offroad terrain. Like using slicks...

I'm from the Midwest and don't drive on beaches but I always herd just deflate the tires. I would just use a long post with a pvc plate and drive it in with a sledge.

This worked for me. I was surfing a remote break in Baja. I had nothing and remembered this video. I grabbed my shovel and dug a hole. I had nothing to bury and remembered the name of this video. I dropped a beer in the hole hit my friend Pat in the head with my shovel and put a strap around Pat. Shoved him in the hole filled it in and hooked my winch to the strap. Pulled my Bronco right out of the sand holes dug in with the back tires. I locked the hubs and with front and rear lockers put it in reverse hit the gas hard on the 408 EFI and pulled Pat right out with my beer. I took a leak and splashed Pat doing so and he woke right up. Not remembering we were stuck and curious about sand under his board shorts. I explained how he got mad the hooker he chose after surfing because it turned out was not really a she. It was a shim and knocked him out pulled up his shorts and bailed as I walked up from the water. Shim had just finished a pee I noticed on the sand. Thanks for the tip.

Spade anchors work well but that's another heavy thing to haul. There are also plastic traction plates you can shove up under any wheel with 4WD and the right rear on 2WD (of course no one with 2WD should be driving on soft sand.) You can also use a come along/ratchet puller if you don't have or can't afford a powered winch. This is purely speculation, but I wonder if one of the drive wheels could be converted into a spool. Place a loop from a strap or cable through a hole in a drive wheel rim with the anchor buried as before. Then very slowly start moving, keeping the line centered on the tire tread as much as possible. Just a short length of line securely spooled may be enough to pull you free. Anyone think that is feasible?

Strap some 2x4's on your drive tires.... works like a charm and a lot easier...

WAY TOO MUCH EFFORT. #1, Don't drive on sand if you don't know what you are doing. #2, IF you for some reason feel compelled to drive on sand alone and you DON'T know how, drive a Toyota TRD vehicle so you can use Crawl Control. Don't even need to air down your tires. ;) The end.
