Cleaning it is not a permanent fix once the sensor has actually failed. Like all sensors, it is a wear item. Also given its location on m272/m273, this sensor takes a fair amount of abuse if you haven't fully addressed the pcv/ccv system or kept up with engine air filters. The seal on the engine air filter assembly also fails, as well as 2 seals NO ONE replaces which are on the elbow that the MAF attaches to, adding to more debris hitting the MAF and leaving the system not properly sealed. I have success cleaning mine as it was done for simple maintenance. My sister has these same faults & cleaning the MAF made things ok for a time, but the codes have & will continue to come back.

@@Trucker2083 can you check the freeze frame of the code and see when the fault occurred when the engine is started/running? if so look at the cam position sensor and make sure they are with in spec range, if not check the volts/ohms just to make sure that you do have a faulty sensor before you start replacing parts, also always check your battery! got to remember these cars are a rolling computer so volts/ amps are very important(sensors have a tolerance range before they throw a code because of lack of volts/amps). let me know if you need some more help.

in my case it popped up a engine code, did some further investigating and found i was getting signal error. used a snap on code scanner.

I cleared the code, but remember that a code scanner and codes are just 1 part of a diag, you can have underling problems causing it. I'm not sure if that code will just go away after you start/drive it.

My advice is if you have to unplug any sensor or module, disconnect the battery . You do not want any sensor or module to short out causing more damage rather be safe than sorry. Thank you for the comment.

I'm not sure off the top of my head i know i used my dad's snap on code scanner and i can test sensors and see what is exactly going on. it is in the Eletric Air pump video, but it saves the codes that was stored in the Mercedes. i will edit the comment when i can get the scanner shouldn't be too long maybe a day or two.
