The ABA was grossly o-ver-ra-ted. It featured passive defense and very little depth, especially among bigs. That explains why the NBA accepted only three ABA teams in its 1976 expansion. (No, it was not a merger.)

Actually the very first ABA game I ever saw was the Denver Rockets _at_ the Kentucky Colonels that same season in Louisville's Convention Center downtown. It's interesting to see this, but that completely uncoordinated audio drags this down. I'd get rid of that.

So it’s the ABA’s fault for the 3 pt. Line 🤔
@DwellerHollowMusicАй бұрын
It was the actually the fault of the American Basketball LEAGUE of 1961-63...after it folded, the Eastern League kept it going, and then the ABA adopted it when it started in 1967-68

The Packers/Bucs game at the Big Sombrero would see Green Bay outgain Tampa 569-262...but it still ended in a 14-14 tie. Missed field goals...and Green Bay turned it over twice while TB didn't. I know Facenda describes it as a "defensive battle"....it really wasn't. There wasn't much scoring but the Packers moved the ball at will for all 5 quarters

Wow 0:44 Cousy inbounds! The following season, the Bucks were about to tie the record for consecutive wins, against the Knicks of all teams. Willis Reed put on a show though and halted their win-streak.

Cecil Isbell (along with his Packer cohort, Arnie Herber) was revolutionary. They were among the first great passing Pro Quarterbacks. This Packers team was compared to the rest of the league - Air Coryell.

Was this year the last time the Packers beat the Colts in an away game? I think it might be. They've also never won a game in Buffalo.

That was an intentional very dangerous defensive hard foul from below with the offensive player in the air on way to the basket. Therefore, it should have been after the free throws, USA keeps the ball. That was the first cheat. The illegal time out, second cheat. The first additional 3 seconds, the third cheat. The second additional 3 seconds, the fourth cheat.

The East was basically the 1963 Celtics with Oscar Robertson.. The West was basically the 1969 Lakers with Bob Pettit playing power forward. Wilt did his usual thing in all star games where he hung back and let others score, Elgin Baylor didn't shoot well, Big O did and that was the difference.

Very nice song, tho the New Jersey Americans lasted only the maiden season of the ABA of 1967-68. The Americans claim to pro basketball infamy is that they were eliminated from the playoffs by forfeit. The Americans and the Kentucky Colonels were to meet in a one game playoff for third place; the game was played in Commack,Long Island, NY, because the Americans home court in Teaneck was booked by a traveling circus. The faclity had too many loose boards, and whatnot. Commissioner George Milan considered the arena unplayable and the Colonels got the victory be default. This franchise is now the Brooklyn Nets of the NBA.
