Yes it’ll work inside your house with no wind but that BRS stove is extraordinarily sensitive to wind and there is a gap between the stove and the pot necessitating the use of a windscreen outdoors in any wind above 3 mph. Where I live in Northern California it is always blowing at least 3 mph and usually more, probably in the UK also. I suggest the excellent Fire Maple GreenPeak Stove for the Petrel pot which costs $20 and would be much more wind resistant than the BRS stove.
@camping_guru_uk2 күн бұрын
@@browsman2328 I agree but I have the BRS so I thought I'd give it a go. The burner definitely works better on the Petrel pot than a standard pot as it's tucked up that bit more. @@camping_guru_uk Thank you. I really appreciate your answers! I am looking at the same 260g model. And your video is so helpful. The only thing that confuses me is the discrepancy between the down filling and the declared temperature limits. I mean that with a filling of 500g/700fp down and an 20d outer fabric it should be either warmer or lighter. For example, I have now ordered another Mammut Nordic 3 season sleeping bag, it has a declared weight of exactly 1 kg (400g filling/650 fp) and a temperature limits of -5/0 C. Also do not forget that it’s a classic mummy sleeping bag with a hood, that seems it is always heavier than a similar specs quilt, but for some reason not in this case..

I have two problems which I wondered if this will fix. The first is, being old and with weaker arms I’m struggling to initially get the awning ’tunnel’ fitted to the van. I can’t use the awning rail on my own, it’s too difficult. Usually I throw the guy ropes over the van and peg down, but now I’m struggling to pull the tunnel up onto the roof. I saw these and wondered if when fitted to the tunnel I could easily put them onto the roof so they’ll hold while I peg down at the other side. The second is, when using just the guy ropes I inevitably have gaps where the tunnel edge is gaping in places….and so this might take those gaps away by keeping it flat.

EDIT:- So after a week of the tent being pitched a number of the plastic clips that clip the outer flysheet to the poles have snapped, they are very brittle and most of them are cracking. It's an easy fix to swap out to some tougher new ones. The seller couldn't been more helpful and refunded myself a good chunk of the original cost, certainly enough to cover buying replacement clips. After leaving the tent up for a week in the garden I found even with a full night of rain there were no leaks. The tent seams are not taped so I will be silicone sealing them with some DIY home made silicone sealant. I will also be swapping out the guyropes and making each one a sort of double triangle for each pole. Once all this is done I still think it will be a cracking good tent for the money.

This reminds me of my much missed Ultimate Phaserdome F. That cost me £105 in about 1983. I pitched that thing in a howling gale with driving rain on the north west coast of Scotland and didn't get the inner wet. I hate the American way of pitching the inner first, with the outer rubbing off the waterproofing as the tent moves over the (now soaked) inner. The only problems I had with that old tent were that the poles had an even number of sections, so they were weak where they were also unsupported. After 10 years of camping in the north west of Scotland they were all bent at that joint. It needed the roof vents yours has too. I told Ultimate and they incorporated my changes but refused to modify mine to recognize my help. My uncle had a similar experience with an early Phoenix tent and they made the changes for free as well as incorporating them in later production. I never bought from Ultimate again, or gave them more feedback. Phoenix was a classy firm, sad that they sold out. Not sure about those unsupported sides and the short pole. In force 8-11 winds my old tent used to look like a drop of rain being blown up the windscreen. I have woken up with it in my face. I am not sure the attachment at the end of the short pole would survive that. Still, for the money, why not.
