I’m 75 and my wife and I have enjoyed gin and tonic in the summertime for probably fifty years. We insist on making it out of Beefeater gin and Schweppes tonic water. In our opinion no other ingredient combination compares, and isn’t a real G & T.

Hey Happy Scotch Lovers ....... After reading most of the comments here, I think the title of the video was misrepresented rather than the content. The title should have read: "10 Scotch Whiskies and 10 Alternatives You Should Try" As taste is subjective, the option of alternatives did have a small price difference and some a bit more. However, one must never assume price over quality. In the Bourbon world, you can buy a bottle of "Early Times" - $9.00usd. OR , you can buy "Evan Williams" - $16.00usd which is much better. In the Scotch world, the same subjective comparisons hold true. Some like the alternatives while others like the first choice. Remember - Drink the whiskey You like ... any way you like it ! Cheers !

I agree with most of your points. One point, however, I'd like you to investigate is a "vat" . . . I would like you to take 2 parts Larceny, and one part Makers Barrel. The higher the proof of the Makers, the better it will be. But this vat will prove very nearly as good as Pappy. You know the mash bills, and you know the DNA of these bourbons. Would just like to hear your reactions. :-)

Seagram’s Extra Dry Gin is my go to for martinis, because of the dryness. I use very little Vermouth, and Olives stuffed with Jalapeños. It’s lip smackingly good. I don’t like “floofy” gins except for other cocktails like gin and tonic.

An excellent comparison of various gin pairings. However I think you missed an obvious pairing. Hendricks (regular) vs another cucumber gin. A lot of people like the smooth flavor of Hendricks and we have some other clone cucumber gins (Esme). That would have been a good pairing to evaluate.

Nice video! I do think some of the comparisons were a little mis-matched. New Amsterdam could better be compared to other cheaper gins like Seagrams, ie..... cheap vs cheap. Glad to see Bluecoat gin in the comparisons. I think Bluecoat is much better then NoLets. Other gins I would like to have seen are some of the amazing Icelandinc gins, Gunpowder gin from Ireland, and Cidatelle gin. Last note.... anyone who appreciates gin should take the Beefeater Gin Distillery tour in London.

If I have one complaint on your comparison videos (not just this one, but your whisk(e)y ones as well) is that your comparisons are rarely price comparible. I don't think most of us are going to be considering a bottom shelf bottle with a mid priced bottle. Yes, there are higher priced bottles that are not worth the money, but those should be compared to other bottles in the same price category for a valid comparison. For example, in this video, a comparison between Bombay Sapphire and regular Tangueray might have been more appropriate. Or Tangueray 10 vs. one of Bombay's other options.

Interesting list of recommendations with the heavy leaning towards Dominican Rums. For folks to get a sense of sipping rums without breaking the bank, I usually suggest El Dorado 12 (Guyana ~$35), Appleton 12 (approachable Jamaican funk ~$50), anything aged from Rhum JM (Martinique Agricole ~$50), and Probitas/Veritas (lightly aged blend of Hampden and Foursquare ~$30 cheesecake in a glass). Haitian Clarins and Mexico cane juice expressions also offer great budget unaged and lightly aged sippers. For 151, it's hard to beat Hamilton Demerara 151 for less than $25. Another overproof that is great is Planteray (formerly Plantation) OFTD (~$35 for a liter). For mixers there is anything mentioned above, plus: Hamilton 86 Demerara, Hamilton White Stache, Rum Fire (used in small amounts by the uninitiated), Coruba, Smith & Cross, and Planteray 3 Star. I tend to avoid using the Puerto Rican and other light tasting Spanish style rums that are used basically as fillers in a cocktail, but if you're looking for a good one, Bacardi 8 is about the best out there.
