I love this, but I have to say that we went really fast from "2x dev productivity, so simple" to "this is extremely complicated, so to simplify... All you need is 4 databases, 3 replication systems and 2 data merge synchronization systems."

This is an amazing talk on using Linear by Linear. Perfect example of dog fooding. Now I am wondering, it would be useful to also have such a chat in a workflow for the more B2C (i see Linear as working as B2B)

The background music is too loud especially combined with the speaker's accent, would have been better with no background music. Also dark mode is hard to see for some people, me for example.

I’m curious if the linear team uses this as a way to capture internal feedback and planning for upcoming features and projects to build, or if it’s strictly used externally? Also wondering what other statuses you use on the Feature Request team, if they differ from dev or design at all.

This video is titled "Managing Feature Requests with Linear," but it is more like a masterclass for all SaaS teams to improve their cross-functional workflows. Thank you! 🙏

Would be awesome to hear how do you follow back after the feature is shipped! I imagine Customer Success and Support team go through the feature request inputs and reach out to everyone about the new feature?
@linearАй бұрын
@@michalguy each issue is connected to the source it came from. In the case of intercom, the Integration we have reopens the conversation on intercom once the issue is marked as complete. Makes it easy to know when to let them know it's shipped!

So with these feature request features, can it be used in a way to like embed a public facing roadmap board where users can vote or add features? Or is ingesting via a private slack group the only way?
@linearАй бұрын
It's not something we offer at this time, though there are 3rd party integrations that do that. For example productlane.com is a popular one.

Hi guys. this is amazing. Just a feature request. My company used to communicate on slack before and used Google Workspace along side it which also comes with Google chats (business communication software like slack). Recently many Businesses have started using Google chat since it has come a long way. Integration with it will be highly appreciated.

How do these work if I have a bunch of small customers? Or if the customer is anonymous? I want to capture requests from the long tail in addition to my large customers.
@linearАй бұрын
You can still add the feedback to an issue, without having a customer name, it will default to "no customer" for the name.

Not really. Notion is a "Put it together yourself and maintain it" platform. While linear is a very specific platform for engineering teams.
@gnasamxАй бұрын
I don't think so. linear's approach is, they work on one feature at a time and they try to resolve all the traditional issues related to it also they make it fast and beautiful. for example, they released documents to write project specifications and now this customer's request.

I think you should test your design on "normal people", not ideal users. Being near users, almost designing alongside them, at least forming ideas, is valuable. I like the idea of going out and talking to people about what you do. That's something I'll keep doing.

You can create custom views in the "Views" section of teams, or the + icon when viewing a team issues view.
@benmorton42 ай бұрын
Curious to hear how you manage different workflows in a project now that it looks to be supporting more than just engineering teams. For example, lets say we have an issue that gets assigned to the marketing team to create a social post about the new feature, the marketing team moves their issues through multiple design and review stages, that an engineering oriented issue may not. Do you consider these 2 teams with 2 workflows that operate out of 1 project and based off of which team the issue is assigned to would determine the workflow?
@linear2 ай бұрын
You can add multiple teams to the same one project, so that it will show each teams related issues, and the overall project so everyone's on the same page. The project details pane will allow to quick filter to specific teams also.

Slack is bad, lists are a total joke, canvases could just have been called docs and then people would be more inclined to use it, calls are and feel terrible, why is each one a message into the channel - things like discord fundamentally do it better. The tinder swipe thing is silly, wrong solution for an important problem. Subpar product for subpar companies.
