You had the micron gauge on the wrong end of the removal tool, when you valved off it was not reading from the system so the low volume is what caused the drastic rise in microns.

How to convert a Variable Air Volume (VAV) unit (16th digit of the model number is a 2, 3, 4, 5) to Constant Volume (CV): Remove power from the unit before you begin this procedure. 1. (IGV units) The IGV must be mechanically locked open. The unit will no longer control it. 1. (VFD units) The VFD must be programmed so that the minimum speed is 60 HZ. Without COMM (LCI, TCI or BCI) 2. Remove the wire harness from the RTRM J4 to the RTAM J2 (wires W68-W71). Discard the harness or save it in case the unit needs to be converted back to VAV. 3. Unplug PPF13 from the RTAM (wires W63-W66) and plug it on to RTRM J4. 4. Restore power and test. The unit is now Constant Volume and requires an appropriate zone sensor or conventional thermostat for operation. With COMM (LCI, TCI or BCI) 2. Remove the wire harness between the COMM J2 and the RTAM J2 (wires W68-W71). Discard the harness or save it in case the unit needs to be converted back to VAV. 3. Unplug the J3 plug from the RTAM (wires W63-W66) and plug it in to Comm J2. 4. Restore power and test. Note: If the unit has LCI, the LCI-DAC will have to be replaced with LCI-SCC or LCI-X. Otherwise, the unit will not control properly.

I made a cable for to allow me to connect it to the older RTRM boards that have the J4 plug. Out of my TD5 I split the j10 plug and added a j4 plug. I also made a split cable to use incase there was something already plugged into the j4 on the board. It works great

I noticed the comment you made about setting the min HZ 60 . You have a VFD that still can be used in a Single zone application do not need duct static pressure . The VFD will ramp up and down base on the need . Fan only it run at min , Econ start to ramp up , 1st stage cooling , 2nd stage , 3rd stage up to 100% VFD or Heating will be 100 % VFD . Email me , Be glad to help I’ll send you my cell number

Need to change from VAV zone to Single zone . bypass the RTAM module and Change the VFD setting. Have a Trane Factory setup for this unit or you can installed a Trane VAV T-stat to keep as a VAV system . Note : the unit will drive VFD to 100% in Heating mode . Have a relay on this unit that you can wire to open the damper 100% . If you would like some help email [email protected] 23 years Working for Trane commercial and industrial in Dayton Ohio .

Great channel and good video. Just curious if the RTU is configured for VAV and you have zone dampers, if you configure the unit for CV don't you need a bypass damper to control static pressure?
@hvacworld7421
@hvacworld7421 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks. Yes, you are correct. The site had about 5 zone dampers. I removed all the actuators and open all dampers 100%. Then I dropped a thermostat wire down in space and installed a thermostat. After doing so I changed the setting on the drive to a min 60hz. Site was an open plenum return. Works perfect. It was the correct set up for the site however not the correct set up for every site.

Well most of the time, depending on the degree of ground/burn it will take out the other compressor. It the same thing as replacing a single compressor without cleaning up the system. You may get lucky, at least I hope so !
@hvacworld7421
@hvacworld7421 3 жыл бұрын
Totally agree. It's always recommended that you replace a trio or tandem when one compressor is a burnout. However most customers will not want to pay for that. Luckily I did an acid test and it came out negative, however you never know if there was a mechanical failure and shavings such as from the bearings got in the oil.

Nice information,,,,,I have one question ,,,any time you change compressor ,,,you need to put in recovery mode ? I suppose it need to close the all the valve too ? If I am wrong,,,,?
@hvacworld7421
@hvacworld7421 3 жыл бұрын
Yes, in recovery mode, it will allow the system to open up to recover the complete charge. This way you can also pull a proper vacuum and weigh in the total charge. You do not need to close any valves on the system.

@@hvacworld7421 Hey brotha, I actually got into the union and start with a commercial/industrial outfit in a few weeks. Looking forward to being exposed to all types of new stuff and learning. I've only ever worked in residential shops with like 5 techs, now the place I'm going to has like 150 guys with all different types of teams (chillers, vrf, controls).
