On a map it looks smaller than Lake Superior, it must be much deeper.

Thank you for taking the time to comment. Yes, the surface area of the lake is a little more than 1/3 that of Lake Superior. However, it is much deeper, reaching a maximum depth if about 1.6km (about 1 mile) which would be about 4 times the depth of Lake Superior.

The video released earlier today was for the incorrect photo as the photo was changed after I prepared the video to allow for the more timely video on the Geminids. The previous comet image will likely be the APOD for an upcoming day. I apologize for the late fix, but I have been away this weekend and was only just able to make the correction.

Must be returning from the Moons surface, as it has no descent stage ( the part with fuel tanks, descent engine and landing legs, which is left behind on the moon).
@apodpodcast
@apodpodcast 16 күн бұрын
Thank you for the comment. I misread the description when I was preparing my commentary. This is indeed, the ascent stage and doesn't not include the descent stage which, as you mention, was left on the lunar surface.

@@apodpodcast After docking with the CM and transferring the astronauts and samples back to it, the LM was returned to the Moon, crashing into it to create a seismic event that could be picked up by instruments left by the astronauts. The only exception to this was Apollo 10's ascent stage, which is believed to be still in orbit around the Moon. It's hard to tell from this picture whether this was taken before or after re-docking with the CM. It sort of looks like you can see what might be a person (Gene Cernan, if it is) in the window. Hard to tell for sure. So, you may be right in saying this was the ascent stage before heading (back) to the moon.

The seventh one fell to Earth. One is about the fall of Troy. There is another about the hen and her six chicks, somehow she gets mad and comes down to Earth and destroys it. North America tells of seven children that dance and float up, one looks back and falls to make a crater. They are at the shoulder of The Sky Bull, this is shown in Tauroctony with the placement of the blade and in Bullfighting with the sword between the scapula. Plus, just under them and adjacent to The Golden Gate of the Ecliptic is the radiant of The Taurid Meteor Stream, the causation of The Ages of Mankind or Suns in Mesoamerica, also the origin of The Feathered Serpent that takes away The Sun (Impact Winter).

If a large comet broke up in the inner solar system ~20ka (Napier) to form The Taurid Meteor Stream, wouldn't Iron/Nickle meteors be cometary fragments? Why are comets always down played, such as calling them Fluffy Nothings and only producing small meteoric particles of sand? Seems strange when mankind considers them harbingers of doom.
@apodpodcast
@apodpodcast 24 күн бұрын
Thank you for taking the time to comment. There would likely be little to no nickel-iron within the fragments of a comet. The vast majority of a comet is icy materials - water, ammonia, and methane ices along will small fragments of other materials. So, the debris left behind itself would not be a danger to us. An entire comet striking Earth, with a nucleus several kilometers across would be a danger. However, comets were often considered to portend doom in ancient times because they were a sign of change in the heavens which were considered to be perfect and unchanging.

If this universe is a simulation then what kind of simulation is it? This is important, because maybe there never was to be a conscious observer intended, which would be a possible explanation for all the irregularities we observe. (I am refering to simulation theory here)

I'm not impressed. I don't want evidence of life. I want proof of life. I'm tired of astronomers, astro-biologists, and other scientists always talking about how excited they are about seeing evidence of life but never being able to provide the hard proof. If you want to impress me, put a probe on Europa. No, better yet, put the probe under the ice and take a peak under the water. Let's see if it truly has life. Send a live feed back to the public so all of us can see what the probe sees. Let's hear the sounds and see everything in full color as how we would see it if we were actually there in person. If they do that, then I'll be impressed. I feel like they're wasting time sending a probe out there to do what? See something from a far? Please????. It seems like when we actually do see extraterrestrial life elsewhere, we're going to be long gone. I would like know it before I die..
