On a map it looks smaller than Lake Superior, it must be much deeper.

Thank you for taking the time to comment. Yes, the surface area of the lake is a little more than 1/3 that of Lake Superior. However, it is much deeper, reaching a maximum depth if about 1.6km (about 1 mile) which would be about 4 times the depth of Lake Superior.
