Stupendous performance! Barton Pine brings out the best in the violin, and this orchestra created a superb background in which to showcase her talents and skills. She ranks among the tops!

I so enjoyed your video of this wonderful piece. I am so "hooked" on it and I have been for decades. I LOVE Korngold and I'm so terribly glad he come to the USA. I played several movements (piano) of his suite for "Much Ado About Nothing" which is another utterly fantastic piece. Worked on that suite with Ralph Neiweem in Winnetka. Those were wonderful days. I'm in Portland now and I know you play here on occasion. I'll make sure to come see you whenever you come by. Thanks for talking about the background story of the concerto. This made my day! I have a feeling this composer was GREAT FUN and marvelous to know! Thank you!

The most interesting change that the Viola D'amore has gone through (like the Violin) was to change the Gut strings out w/ Flatwound strings

Her rich tone, especially on the g string and incredible intonation make this one of my favorite interpretations of Mendelssohn. I encourage people to watch her video from the 24 in 24 series for the Mendelssohn.

Michael Praetorius describes this instrument as a very new instrument with British origins, even if he hasn‘t any name for it (it is subsumed under Violbastarda) and only mentions 6 playable gut strings but 8 resonating metal strings (Syntagma Musicum II page 47 / published 1620).

I'm going through her recordings on Spotify now. She is completely unintimidated by either the concertos or the hundred previous recordings that came before hers. Glenn Dicterow said the same concertos are performed over and over again so you have to do your own spin on them to keep them fresh. It's nice to hear some local orchestras that I haven't heard before.

Rachel, we were so privileged to have you in the Civic Orchestra all those years ago. I'll never forget hearing you run through the Saint-Saens Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso after one of our rehearsals (you must have been 14 or so). That's when I really took notice of your amazing talent. Thanks so much for your artistry and tireless research into music by Black composers, too! And thanks for coming to Levine. Hope we see you again soon! Jonathan
