LOL that’s fair. It’s mostly because it grows so darn fast and within a week it’s already floating on the surface again. But I’ve started being less aggressive with cutting everything back.

The tank is beautiful. I have 10 tanks and jungle Val in several. It does grow like a weed but mine turns brown after trimming and the leaves melt. I thought jungle Val doesn’t like to be trimmed.

Wow love this tank @0.50 stunning has that natural river vibe could stare at it all day, the angels go with it so well and the one hiding at back slowly sinking down into the val at start of trimming had me giggling like "he hasn't seen me yet I'll just melt on down into here" I personally like the sweeping val look and probably would just cut off the dead leaves at the base and trim half to near top, give it some layers so it looks natural n leave the rest long to keep the sweeping look but let light down through. Gorgeous tank though well done. 💗

Val trimming: hold enough to fit length of scissors, then CUT, don't rip. You run risk of uprooting. I wouldn't consider rhis high maintenance at all. You're doing fine without CO2. CO2 will just encourage growth even more, lower your pH slightly, and an additional expense. The color on your plants is already vibrant and they're thriving.

Absolutely gorgeous. I'm planning a 125 gal. similar tank build. You've really inspired me in creating a semi-amazonian basin tank. Your dark method of establishing your aquarium is awesome. Mind you, I am not a very patient person, but it looks like the method pays off. Thank you.

Hey, good luck with the build! Definitely give the dark start a try, it really saves you from a lot of the issues we typically deal with from having to cycle an aquarium with plants/fish in!

First, don’t pay attention to the hater’s, showing your face allows your audience to make a connection to you. As for the maintenance with your play selection you don’t need to run CO2, but running it will allow for a more vibrant green. I have Val in a tank with swords, what I did is turn the bubble count down and that helps to keep the trimming less. Great setup all around. Your equipment selection, hardscape, plant selection and fish are great.

Wow.. why would you cut val with scissors? I just grab a bush with one hand and tear them off with the other. My tank is 200x50x50 cm and its full with val. I'd be on it all day with your approach :D
@stephenmanning39784 ай бұрын
Hmmm I suppose I could do it without scissors but I’d be worried about accidentally uprooting them with your method, even with holding them down with the other hand. I’ll give it a try though.

Problem with pulling them out is they are attached to each other by runners so you have to cut the runners

Nice scape for angels. Give a thought for Manacapuru/Altums. Jungle val 's are keeping up to it's name 😂. Those big water containers you are hauling..isn't it a back breaking or pain in the back?. I mean you'll really have to gear up your medical insurance in the long term scenario if the hauling process continues 😊.

@@stephenmanning3978 is that the only reason you're carrying those big jugs??? I retrofitted my shower head so I could connect a water hose to it. That's how I fill my 15's, 40, and 75 gal tanks. I'd show you a pic if I could.

really like your place, nice decor and nice presentation - speed and everything still think that it is not a low maintenance project due to tank size and other factor - harsh trimming of vallisneria, the end result if quite unsightly also it kills main feature of this plant, why people choose it - to have those nice long wavy strips of leaves on the surface for less trimming/maintenance & same look, i think, you should choose different plants with same habitus - like cyperus helferi (such a slow grower), eleocharis montevidensis or vivipara, murdannia keisak (which has nice emersed look) or even big echinodorus plant, like bleherae why do you need to trim vallisneria so short, you think your crypts not getting enough light? anyways, keep on going, nice material
@stephenmanning39784 ай бұрын
Hey thanks for the feedback, I really appreciate it! I did trim quite aggressively this time, part of the reason why is because of how fast the Vals grow back to that long wavy look that looks so natural. Within just 2-3 days a lot of the strands are already reaching the surface again, it’s amazing! If I only cut a little, it’s difficult to keep up with the growth between maintenance sessions! Appreciate the alternate plant suggestions. i can definitely consider this for future scapes or if I rescape this one in the future!

Plenty of organic matter in the soil and on the hardscape to get the process started, you’d be surprised. Using a biological starter also helps speed the process, as I said in the video.
