Ha ha, I remember passing my SFET in Holsworthy in 2007. The grunts were having a go at me (a pogue) because I was using underarm grip and punched out 20 heaves (chin ups) without skipping a beat. What they didnt realise is that only the number is recorded, not the method. So a lot of them were trying to be "hero's" and doing overgrasp and struggling at 15. This affected their report ie an A pass vs. B pass. I didn't see many of them at the end of the reinforcement cycle....Ha...Ha.... Anyway, that was a lifetime ago.... I miss some parts but not others. I miss working with switched on people in SOCOMD -I never realised how many f-wits there were in civilian life who just didn't care either through ineptitude or laziness. I DONT miss the SASR vs CDO politics. You get posted to Perth and it is it's own little world. Great facilities but it suffers from SF myopia and a snob mentality. 2 CDO is great but it lacks the quick pivoting ability of the Regiment who just go and do it -damn the consequences. SOHQ in Canberra is like being a teacher constantly separating two fighting boys in school.....lol and then getting your arse kicked from the Principal aka Russell offices, Canberra. I don't miss SASR calling me up in Canberra at 5pm Friday afternoon, when it's 1pm their time and wondering why you get pissed at their last minute requests. You then leave the office at 7pm after calling in favours from various government agencies to get something across the line. So glad it's not who I am anymore... .

Be aware that this is only a standard physical and psychological benchmark before you go onward to any form of acceptance to apply to any selection procedure.We have a finite resource of money and manpower, it's designed to basically to seperate the grain from the chaff.

The main problems of the screaming pint, is its all timed, which later on they expect the same amount of heaves after a 3 hours pi training session, meaning that if you did 20 heaves at the start or 50 push ups at the start, they are expecting the same results after a grueling pi testing which will go for 2 hours running with packs and with out packs then ask to do the same as you started with the basic or intense screaming physical screening amounts for 21 minutes max push ups or pull ups etc., so think about a marathon runner say 1/2 marathon and then asked to do the push ups and heaves based on your first testing markers ? thats how hard it is full stop and if you cant reach the minims your out no secound chances and thats just for the commando regiments ? then add approx 50% more for the SASR ?

Our OC in my early years in the green machine told me that he didn't find the selection course as hard as many claimed (!) and that a lot of candidates just couldn't handle wandering around in the bush at night alone on a nav exercise. One of the great things about a unit like this is the folklore, and I suspect that many of these guys simply feared being dragged into a hut with a bag over their heads and given a little 'touch up' by the selection staff, simply to see how they'd react. If it doesnt happen in selection, I'm sure its only a matter of time.

Most important of any SF tests is you need to be part of a team effort & also that your feet muscles are up there with very strong sets, especially with Army issue foot boots, forget using runners as they will make your feet get use to the training in them, till you put on the GP boots & then you will have an issue with your feet, blisters which will hurt to the point of slowing you down & also all the tests they say you need to pass, the instructors will ask you do do it when ever they want, so dont expect to do what is on this uploads as only the fitness tests, they may ask you to tread water for 2 minutes after you have ran for 2.5 KM & the water tests, so basically its about being fit with stamina on all levels of you body & also try to find a test manual from those who are already in the units, then you will have a better chance & not get surprised with testing which your not used too or trained for good LUCK. :) Most of the time its mind games that the instructors will play with you, even through you can do 100 push up's in 2 minutes they will ask you do do them at any time during the testing ? Even after a week of no sleep & not much food, which is why you see the man spew his guts ?

If these cunts were to try and pull some shit like that in Australia I swear to god on my family's life I'll switch off the kindness in me and switch on the angryness in me and kill every single one of them one by one I'll burn them skin them alive cut ther hands off smash ther faces in with a hammer video tape it and send it to the leader of ther group and tell him that If your on the top of the highest Melton I'm gonna climb it or if I have to walk in to hell just so I can get to you I will & when I get my hands on you Im gona belt the living day lights out of you for stepping in to Australia I'll fight and die for Australia I've made my mind that my Serb /maco nationality is out of my blood and that I'm Australian all the way even after I die I'm gonna be aussie

Do the commandos participate in the same selection course as the sasr?
@magnesiumoar964410 жыл бұрын
Kind of, just less tough. But only slightly less tough.
@drabbit45949 жыл бұрын
+Lewis Hughes No Commando selection and SASR selection are totally different beasts. Look at the Commandos as being more akin to the US Rangers and the SASR as DELTA. You can apply to the Australian Commandos as many times as you like. You can only apply to the SASR once and then if you fail (even if you are medically discharged due to injury) you can not retake the course. That alone explains the vast difference. That said both operate in similar situations and in fact both the SASR and 2nd Commando Regiment often undertake joint deployment.
@Marzattacz5 жыл бұрын
@@drabbit4594 Yes the CTC (commando training Course) and Cadre (SASR) are different. I passed the CTC in 2006 as direct entry applicant. It is false however that you can apply to the CTC as many times as you wish. It really is the discretion of the DS and command if you can reapply.
