Is the Thai wife required to be in Thailand at all times?

Not all Thais are alike, not all Farangs are alike, not all men or women are alike. Just asking - is Somtum from a middle class, upper middle class (educated), or lower class (poor or from Issan) family ? My guess is that she is not from a lower class poor family - which explains her family's reaction to Chip's thinking concerning dowry.

A side from the 400,000 Baht, what other proof of income do you need? Do you have to show how much you make in your country or something like that? Thanks

I’m 35 and plan on marrying a Thai girl who is 27 we have been together 6 years. I’m Australian and have a decent job and am middle class in Australia.. her family is from Isaan and live very basic style with low income. My girlfriend is government school teacher who went through university to achieve this job and is what I’d call a good girl had only one previous relationship to a Thai guy in high school.. how much would be a fair amount to pay sinsod and gold I’d also be paying for the wedding and also will be giving a western style engagement ring.

Did your 1yr Marriage Visa require 90-day reporting through the year, or was it a one-stop visa with renewal every year?.. My Thai Wife and I have been looking into going the marriage visa route and we're still not too sure whether or not 90-day reporting will be required throughout the visa year..

Thai dowry prices fall drastically if your bride-to-be has been previously married, already has children, or is not a virgin anymore. In fact in most of these instances, no dowry deserves to be paid. Thai dowry, however, is usually symbolic in nature and will normally be returned to the married couple after the wedding, so as to help them start on their new life.

Such a good beautiful couple! I am 45 years old, never married and have had 2 long relationships of almost 10 years. Financially I was exploited and I have to change that. From my point of view, it is good to support your partner and his family, but everything within a reasonable framework. And yes, I earn between 150000 and 230000 baht every month, but at the end of the month 90% of the cost of living is gone. I'm going to Thailand in a month to get to know the country and the people. I had to save a lot for this trip. Maybe my future dream woman is waiting in Thailand, who knows? Thanks for the great video!

Show money! haha! 300,000 baht for my wife, but the majority was handed back. My wife's very close Thai family helped pad out the show money bowl from 200,000 to 300,000 baht.(Shush! it's a secret) Still had to buy a present for the in-laws though haha! A large bowl of show money massively increases the family's respect/standing in their village. That's really what the show money is all about these days. My wife is from Kalasin too. A few of my wife's friends and relatives did try it on for money after our traditional Thai wedding, (followed a week later by an official Thai Registry Office wedding) but my new in-laws were quite happy with the gifts and Show money they'd received. We don't get bothered anymore by such requests. All part of the deal when you marry a Thai woman. They are the best in the world in my opinion and well worth the effort. Cheers and Beers!

I've been married to my Thai wife for 22 years. Never have any members of her family asked to borrow money. Sin sod was never even mentioned. I'm lucky, and like you guys we help our family when they need it.

My Thai wife and I will be moving to Thailand in 2023 so this very detailed information was extremely helpful. Thanks to you both! I'd just like to add that if you think the Thai visa process is complicated, it's much worse for westerners taking their Thai wives to their home countries in terms of the bureaucracy involved. The immigration officers don't just ask for photos, they will make surprise visits in person to your home, including a look into your bedroom.

Great info! Thanks for sharing your experience. After 2 NON OA extensions, I will embark on my first Non O marriage visa next month. One thing I want to share if the marriage was from outside Thailand, the marriage certificate has to be notarized by your home embassy (USA for me), translated to Thai, and registered with a certificate from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Once you have both documents, have to register them with your local amphur. I got this info from the FB Thai Visa Forum. Along with your info, I think I'm ready to face immigration. Wish me luck!
