I think it’s fair to say Orthodox is weird to those from the west. It used to be weird to me too now it’s as normal as the day is day and the night is night but that took years. You’re welcome to join the journey! Took me 20 years.

@ The Orthodox Church is your church and everyone’s church even if they don’t know it yet. It’s a wonderful discovery and the best kept secret in America. Orthodoxy is an inexhaustible ocean. Dip a toe in and you will be amazed of the riches, depth, wisdom, history, tradition, truth, and wonder of Christ’s church. He stated it at Pentecost and it’s been alive and well for 2000 years. My favorite story was when he took a drag from a cigarette and winked at the two women of "questionable morals" from the book "Great Art Thou O Lord!" I suggest reading it, its amazing! He could put people to shame and lead them to repentance in the silliest and simplest ways. Sometimes taking blame for things he did not do to lead people to humility and further repentance... This man was so eccentric! I hope America is blessed with someone like this although most wont welcome him/her due to the nature of fools for Christ.. God bless you Book of Akathists :-)

Reading the biography “Great Art Thou, Oh Lord”, a compilation of stories of him and his life. He would often tell people “GET ON YOUR KNEES!” As if there was a force beyond his own commanding it, even powerful sinister people would submit. In some cases this might have been the only time such people showed humility.

@@BookofAkathistsChrist is risen, I honestly feel like I have a Guardian Angel. Also, since Baptism, I have been free of sleep paralysis. I don't have demonic nightmares anymore. Which plagued me my whole life. It still plagues other relatives on my mothers side. Lord have Mercy on me a sinner, and on them. It was so hard waiting for Baptism. Almost 3 years. Especially since a local Church Father taught that we are only given our Guardian Angel at Baptism along with exorcism Prayers.

@@mik569 wow! What a beautiful testimony! Several in our parish have said similar things. One guy described it as static …a lifelong static in his head. At baptism he was finally at peace, still, and quiet. God is so good!
