What makes a C turn a C turn? Whys it got a special name when its just a bunch of basic variations on a transition?

I’m a new skater in Southern California and the hot thing here is a dancy style on tiny hard composite wheels. I was curious about the feel so i turned up some wood wheels on my lathe. They’re mesquite, which is a harder than maple. I wonder if I’m the first to try that. I already knocked a hole in the garage insulation while falling so we’ll see how it goes. Probably gonna embarrass myself but this is just the video I was looking for.

My daughter bought me a pair of skates for Christmas and we went to the local rink tonight. I’m a first time skater at 51, so I padded up and gave it my best without using a trainer. Fortunately, I watched several of your videos before we left. 1, the pads definitely reduced my fear of falling (like your said) and 2, I really focused on posture and keeping my knees over over my toes (again, based on your recommendation.) By the end of the night, I was exponentially better than when I started. I’m just beginning my journey, but having a blast thus far and so grateful for your videos!

I would really like to master the barrel roll. Your instructions seem to be the best but I get confused when you say this foot instead of right or left. Nevertheless I will continue to seek mastery of the barrel roll with your instructions. Thank you.

Katie when I watched this video I knew that the skates I bought from ebay were bad because they said they were "double row" so I got some of the skates that you recommended so thank you Katie ❤

Softer wheels are tend to be used outside so it can absorb the pressure from the ground. They are alright indoors as well! Just not suggested for performances since the wheels can slow down and aren’t ongoing. You need to push more to get the desired speed With the smoother wheels, they move faster and are more slippery.

Obviously easier than in inline skates. It's hard to keep the balance when both skates are one in front of the other especially in low speed.

I am 5'11" and 230lbs. I run 101a durometer cushions super tight, on Reactor Neos. I pivot on toes and heels, sliding the non-planted wheels, to change direction. I enjoy riding edge and toe manuals. I have 20+ years on inlines. Soft setups seem to be for amateurs or short light people. If I were doing maintenance for a rink's rental fleet, I'd have cushions get harder with larger boot sizes.

I'm 51 and I got some new skates after not skating since I was about 14. I don't know why but I thought I'd be better than I was. I was clinging on to a fence for about 20 mins then got the hang of it. Nowhere near ready for the parks though!

Hey Katie, could you please tell me which video to watch for tips on removing the weight from yours heels?
@aquaria132410 күн бұрын
I know this video is older, but is it okay to put the washer after the nut? Or is it necessary to put the washer behind the wheel?
@Skatie9 күн бұрын
The washer can go either behind the wheel or in front of the wheel. Whichever fixes your problems. If you’re getting wheels bite sometimes behind the wheel is better. If it’s just to take up some extra space the choice is yours.

Hi, I would like to purchase new roller skating wheels. I'm currently looking into the Roll-Line Giotto wheels in 57 mm, but I can’t decide which hardness to pick. I’m torn between the 49D and the 53D. A little bit about my skating and skates: I’ve been roller skating for over two years, primarily dance skating. I have the Moxi Lolly skates and have been skating for a year on the Moxi Fundae wheels (92A). However, I’ve decided that I want to get more into artistic roller skating. I’m still a beginner when it comes to jumps and one-legged spins. I struggle a lot with one-legged spins because of the rounded edges of my current wheels. And it’s less stable for landings during jumps. These two reasons are why I’ve been looking for a better alternative. Apparently, the 49D wheels are the most similar to 92A, but I’m wondering if it might be better to go for the 53D to make spinning easier. Does anyone have a recommendation for me? Unfortunately, I don’t have a coach or a place to ask for advice, so I’m hoping someone here can help!

So the D scale can be confusing but if you add 45 to the D scale number that will give you the almost equivalent in the A scale. Although because of the different material they are made from I think they feel a little harder overall.

Thank you for sharing these tips with us and for showing a typical UK park. Its been hard to figure out whats a suitable surface outside here as most advice online is aboit US terrain where they have smooth areas, compared to our bumpy pavements aha

Auuu so scary if you imagine this floor WAXED and the slippery wheels - you waving from earth orbit 😝 Also, I see these curtains as a Matisse style painting of a naked woman’s triangle, and I can’t unsee this! Unrelated, I just admire figure scathing but suddenly I realized why I see it weaker than these fluid rhythm dancers: because in the figure skating style there is hardly any move that is in unisson with the beat or the offbeat…most of the time it ignores this…
@Skatie11 күн бұрын
These curtains are so hideous. Unfortunately they are found in many community halls. 😆 .
