Great info Randy! Are there any additional considerations when warming up with steel vs aluminum on the sleeve?

The flywheels obviously had shift before welded. Plugs are too long and too heavy

Ok ,Randy how come you can't use the m8 crankpin and turn the ends down to press into the twin cam flywheels so you have a flange that butts up against the flywheel and then weld it or have 2 flat head screws tap in to the flywheel crank pin line thread with a 3/8 or 7/16ths screw or smaller have you tryed that for retention of pin n flywheels m8 pin is stronger and rod bearing is better also rods are better, build a motor around that arcatexure or scrap the HD crank and make a 1 peice crank beefyer in every way out of Superior material and use a rod from a Chevy motor or nascar mo with a automotive bearing the market it there

Still can't get the Briggs and Straton right. Give HD a hundred years and you would think they are still at the drawing table. Look I love my bike. I just wish they would put aircraft quality into their aircraft engines.

That’s all really sad considering a 2012 BMW’s GTL stock with 160 less cc’s makes 132hp and a 112lb torque and its considered an “old man bike”

98HP and 101TQ is far from a beast for a 107 Stage 3. I've got a 2018 Road Glide Special with a HD Stage 3 kit, Jackpot 2-1-2 headers and 4.5" SE Street Cannon Mufflers with just a conservative Street Tuner and I got 118TQ and 113HP.

Could it be on the pinion side that the .006" variance is because your center is in a threaded hole? Either way, for a .002" max runout, .012" is CRAZY! I can usually get a good old set of taper crank pin flywheels to true out near .001".

Harley needs to make a solid crank, side by side connecting rods with babbitt bearings. Keep the 45 degree v angle, hire some competent engineers, do it in house without Porsche. peace out!!

Marino M There's are reason auto manufacturers quit using babbit bearings 70 years ago!!! Harley needs to up it's quality control and aim for higher tolerances.

First thing is by installing the longer pugs you are distorting the bearing surface. Second thing they are called countersunk allen bolts not flat head. And using a live center is not very accurate.

I can tell you right now that is not going to work for very long. been there don that. you have to weld a billet aluminum piece in the case and then machine it to fit the timken bearing set. its a big pain in the ass, but the only thing that will run for any length of time. P.S. you will need to reface the cases because of warpage during the welding process, and don't forget the line bore is critical. Al, in Mobile H-D mechanic for last 35 years (251) 643-7264

What is that fixture on the cylinder base - is that necessary or can the cylinder be measured without it?
@obfuscated3090
@obfuscated3090 6 жыл бұрын
That's a torque plate (there are two per set). You need them for accurate measurement/boring/honing.. You also need your FACTORY service manual and parts book. (Not Clymer/Chilton/Haynes/etc.) The service manual would have answered your question.

2 spacers and a small block of clay. $30??? Why is absolutely everything even remotely related to Harley ridiculously expensive. Here Harley just change the $ to a £ sign. Which is simply gross. They charged me £6/$10 for a small seat bolt, nothing special. For my Hornet I lost a few bolts so went to Honda and they just gave them to me. You wonder why Harleys are so unpopular here? its Harley admin. Killing off beautiful bikes that only a few can afford. The majority being fat old men.
