What a motor, 124" that never missed a beat. Set 2 records at Bonneville with a top speed of 149.811 w/o turbo set up. Coast to coast, drag strips and the Salt Flats. Damn near made 100,000 on a built rocket, not bad. Thanks Randy.........

Curious - how did the repair hold up?

Great info Randy! Are there any additional considerations when warming up with steel vs aluminum on the sleeve?

Thanks, Randy! It's good to see somebody gettin down to the nitty-gritty on this stuff. Rock on, Brutha!

Could it be on the pinion side that the .006" variance is because your center is in a threaded hole? Either way, for a .002" max runout, .012" is CRAZY! I can usually get a good old set of taper crank pin flywheels to true out near .001".

Still can't get the Briggs and Straton right. Give HD a hundred years and you would think they are still at the drawing table. Look I love my bike. I just wish they would put aircraft quality into their aircraft engines.

I like the way you did the steel sleeve. Makes me think of STD cases. Are they still around?

First thing is by installing the longer pugs you are distorting the bearing surface. Second thing they are called countersunk allen bolts not flat head. And using a live center is not very accurate.

Ok ,Randy how come you can't use the m8 crankpin and turn the ends down to press into the twin cam flywheels so you have a flange that butts up against the flywheel and then weld it or have 2 flat head screws tap in to the flywheel crank pin line thread with a 3/8 or 7/16ths screw or smaller have you tryed that for retention of pin n flywheels m8 pin is stronger and rod bearing is better also rods are better, build a motor around that arcatexure or scrap the HD crank and make a 1 peice crank beefyer in every way out of Superior material and use a rod from a Chevy motor or nascar mo with a automotive bearing the market it there

The flywheels obviously had shift before welded. Plugs are too long and too heavy

Harley needs to make a solid crank, side by side connecting rods with babbitt bearings. Keep the 45 degree v angle, hire some competent engineers, do it in house without Porsche. peace out!!
@krisf72087 жыл бұрын
Marino M There's are reason auto manufacturers quit using babbit bearings 70 years ago!!! Harley needs to up it's quality control and aim for higher tolerances.

Pretty much. There's a reason HDs aren't GP racing!
