As a drummer of 49 years( started when I was 10) that loved and attempted to cover Neil for decades, I understand how difficult it is to nail a Rush song. You are really impressive. I wish I had videos like this back in the day. Would’ve been a lot easier to learn Neil’s drum parts. You are helping a whole generation of young drummers. Please keep it going. Again, impressive.

@@CaseyLewis understand that so well. Agonizing is a great way to put it😂😂. Every year they put a new album out I was blown away trying to figure out the new things Neil was doing. His passing was a sad day for all of us who listened and were amazed. Still miss him. He impacted countless drummers.

@@DinaDAndrea You’re so kind! Even though I love almost every single Rush song, this song in particular means the world to me, resonating with the teenage misfit that I grew from. That was incredible. I thought you were using double bass pedals but to do with with just one is inspirational. I’ve tried for 40 years to play with 2 feet but it’s never really worked for me. Maybe I should try your approach. Any pointers as how you got your single pedal work so fast and precise?
@CaseyLewis Жыл бұрын
Thanks so much! I appreciate it. ☺️ As for the speed, there’s really no shortcut, I’m sad to say. There are several techniques that people use to achieve those kinds of fast doubles, the one I use it most closely related to toe slide technique, although I move my foot position much less than most toe slide players. Having the right kick pedal settings for your technique and body also helps. Then the rest is just practice, practice!
@funland108 Жыл бұрын
Thanks man. I bloody knew what the answer is lol, just hoping to avoid it! It looks like you use your ankle to achieve the speed rather than the whole leg or big toe slide moves, is that right? I’ll have to go…er… PRACTICE that!
@CaseyLewis Жыл бұрын
@@funland108 one of the major secrets to all effective drumming, or maybe all effective fast movement in general, is to minimize the amount of large muscle groups that you have to use. Ankle, foot, even toes a little bit. The whole leg is big and heavy and takes more energy. Same with hands: I use WAY more finger movement than arm.
@funland108 Жыл бұрын
@@CaseyLewis thanks, good reminder. You have certainly mastered that.
