Belvedere - Happily Never After - OFFICIAL Drum Playthrough

This is the official drum playthrough for the song "Happily Never After", which is track #1 off of our album "Hindsight is the Sixth Sense", recorded in December 2020. I recorded the album at Echo Base Studio, my recording studio in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

Below are the technical details of both the drumkit and the recording equipment.
Drumkit: Trick AL13 Aluminum shells in Tiffany Blue Finish. 20x14, 16x16, 12x9, 10x8, 14x7. All the drums are setup with the amazing Hendrix Drums Sleeved Washers.
Cymbals: Zildjian 21" Z Mega Bell Ride, Sabian/Zildjian 14" Hats, Sabian 20" Paragon Brilliant Chinese, Sabian 20" Paragon Brillant Crash, Sabian 20" A Custom Explosion Crash, Sabian 19" A Custom Explosion Crash
Drumsticks: Vic Firth Thomas Lang Model
Kick Pedal: Tama Dynasync with Trick Dead Blow Beater
All the tracks were recorded into Pro Tools HD through a Midas Heritage 3000 console, then mixed analog, through a Burl B32 Vancouver and a Looptrotter Satur8/24.

Kick Drum: Sennheiser 901 (In), Self-built Subkick mic (Out)
Snare Drum: Sennheiser e914 and Shure SM57 (top), AKG Pro 37A (bottom)
Toms: Shure Beta 56
Hi Hat: Beyer Dynamic Opus 53
Nearfield Overheads: Blue Baby Bottles (Spaced Pair)
Room mics: Cascade Vin/Jet matched pair (Blumlein)
The video was filmed on Sony A6400 cameras for the wide shots and a GoPro Hero7 Silver for the feet and graded and edited in Hitfilm Express.

Seriously how on earth do you play the hats that quick without your arm getting sore. I can do it but only for maybe 10 seconds at a time haha

I use a modified finger technique. It’s not exactly a Moeller stroke, but has a couple similarities: primarily that my index finger and thumb form a fulcrum grip and the rest of my fingers propel the stick into and out of my palm. The main thing is not to tighten your muscles too, too much. Small bursts of contraction are more efficient here than large movements. Apart from that, it’s just practice!
