The only scary part of Longlegs were the corners of the frame honestly. I thought the shots in Barbarian were a lot scarier. The FBI entertaining her “intuition” was unbelievable and basically just used as a way to swiftly move over plot points, like the cryptic stuff for example. Fwiw, I don’t watch trailers so apart from hearing it’s like silence of the lambs, had no expectations going in. The cinematography was bold; some shots it really worked, for example the detectives entering the barn with their flashlights. And some shots were just a bit dark and it didn’t really work. Overall 7/10 a decent horror but I don’t think it goes down with the greats. Oh and the red snake thing, comon. Reminds me of the end of sinister in some way lol.

Great review! I agree, stylistically this movie is amazing, but it just wasn't scary. Critics calling it 'the scariest film of the decade' is a massive over-exaggeration. What analogue horror films can you recommend? (Could be a good idea for a video...?)

Longlegs isnt scary but you know what is? Shortlegs Damn corgis

The pictures looked so spooky! And with the first teaser/trailer of the 911 phone call with the man saying “that is not my daughter” I just expected for mr downstairs to possess these kids or something but idk

No you’re so real for this I thought I was just not appreciating it enough? But again, as you said, it’s the desensitization for sure. As a person who has 6 years old and watching paranormal activity, I do feel like I was teased and never got to finish 🙏🏻

i will say as much as i love this movie, i even found the ending to be interesting bc of how it left u, however i agree w the creature idea n felt like it was so predictable. like as soon as we figured out what time this film took place in i clocked the satanic panic themes.

dude your videos and your content is so important to me. You've put so many things into words for me that I didn't know other people felt, it means the world to me and I want you to know that I will always watch your videos, like I genuinely check youtube every day to see if you've uploaded, which sounds psychotic, but I haven't done that since like 2016 youtube era, we are so back. I love all your takes on movies and horror, I would totally watch you play through a horror game or something, that would be awesome. Also thanks for talking about your relationship with food, I don't have anyone in my life who talks about it/understands what I mean when I talk about it so it means a lot to have someone else put it into words for me <33 I appreciate you so much dude

I also thought the first 3/4 of the movie was great but then just went down hill. I was expecting so much more, not just from the marketing but the incredible build up. There was so much build for just another demonic/satanic/possession plot. Not that all of those suck but the way they did it just wasn't original, especially with the heavy Silence of the Lambs inspiration. I definitely dislike it more than you did lol but I enjoyed hearing your thoughts on it!

I'm not much of a horror person, i only even saw this movie because my sister made me watch it on her behalf (she thought it would be an 18uk but it was only 15uk in the end) amd for me it was a good midground of scary but not too scary that it was in the back of my mind after the day of, so it was good for me- but i do agree that it feels a little underwhelming compared to lots of the promo material, especially the literal long legs, i went in expecting more of that and there just wasn't any
@bluemascaratears8 күн бұрын
dude I completely agree with this! Love listening to you talk about movies.

I liked so much of this movie but it didn’t stick with me afterwards and give me that unsettled feeling for days after like I was expecting it to. That promo picture with the girl’s legs gave me the same feeling I get when I look at pictures of nostalgic almost liminal spaces of old play places that are brightly colored but deserted and so creepy. I don’t know why I was expecting something like that or something much more uncanny but I was.

I was also expecting more from that long leg imagery and then it played like no role in the movie ?

what you said about thinking everyone is making fun of you is so relatable! i went to a really conservative christian school in my formative years and they were really mean to me there in a way that still makes me think everyone is laughing at me and i’m literally 24. also i love this style of video! of course i love your horror content but this type of vulnerability you exhibit here and on your podcast means so much to me you don’t even know. it’s so comforting to hear you speak i feel like i’m talking to an old friend i’ve known forever 🩵

It's such a relief to find someone who enjoyed this movie as much as I did. I think the scene that is most emblematic is the one where they are going around the Universal backlot in the golf cart. They go from one set to another and it's this constant jumbling of different periods and styles, as well as the fake and the reality. You could say it's a metaphor--but it's the actual world that the characters are all living in. You turn a corner and you go from bright neon streets into a dark alley of terror. In each of the movies, the style of the movie is a character--it determines what will happen and how it will play out. Maxxxine has to work out the way it does, because that's the movie we're in. If it was different--as some people seem to think it should have been--it wouldn't have been true to the style of that time. In Pearl, I was always hoping that somehow she would become a Star and escape the world she was in--but that couldn't happen, because that wasn't the kind of movie that Pearl was in. Because Maxxxine is a 1980s style movie, she gets to have the life that Pearl could not have.

I don't think her father actually thinks Maxine is possessed, because he tells her "Play along with Daddy" when he is about to "exorcise" her. His voice is low so none of his followers can hear him. He wants to exploit her like porn did.

This entire Trilogy is easily the best, most consistent, thoughtful Trilogy I've ever seen in film, let alone horror. Each movie is genre defining honestly. The filmmaking is insane, and the acting is top tier with the scripts being so well realized. Maxxxine is out of left field in a way that other people besides me didn't expect, and I think that's perfect. This is a series constantly changing shape, and it would've been terrible if they isn't do something wild.
