SPOILERS AHEAD! But also this is more of a cultural analysis rather than strictly a movie review! If you've seen it I'd love to hear what you think. X trilogy will go down in horror history I think either way

You took so many words out of my mouth and expanded upon them. Maxxxine is definitely my favorite of the trilogy and it is the perfect ribbon to tie up the story left by X and Pearl. When I first watched the first two movies I loved them but felt like there was something missing so I was really looking forward to Maxxxine and it did not disappoint. I loved everything you had to say. You are always so eloquent and insightful with your reviews!

I felt like a kid, I was smiling so much when watching this. Saw it at an open air cinema, the wind was blowing and it all smelled like buttered popcorn and combined with the movie it really pulled me in its atmosphere. Such a great homage to 80s horror. Also I LOVE that they chose to show the house from Psycho as a reminder to Maxxxine to keep doing her thing. Now regarding other people's opinions I'm thinking that some people claim sth is iconic only if they can quote it, or dress like a character and only that makes it iconic and cult, and now with maxxxine people kinda struggle to fit it into that and end misunderstanding the point.

It's such a relief to find someone who enjoyed this movie as much as I did. I think the scene that is most emblematic is the one where they are going around the Universal backlot in the golf cart. They go from one set to another and it's this constant jumbling of different periods and styles, as well as the fake and the reality. You could say it's a metaphor--but it's the actual world that the characters are all living in. You turn a corner and you go from bright neon streets into a dark alley of terror. In each of the movies, the style of the movie is a character--it determines what will happen and how it will play out. Maxxxine has to work out the way it does, because that's the movie we're in. If it was different--as some people seem to think it should have been--it wouldn't have been true to the style of that time. In Pearl, I was always hoping that somehow she would become a Star and escape the world she was in--but that couldn't happen, because that wasn't the kind of movie that Pearl was in. Because Maxxxine is a 1980s style movie, she gets to have the life that Pearl could not have.

Such a thoughtful analysis. So happy to hear a positive review!I left the theater so confused as to why people were reacting negatively to it. I totally agree on your take on fundamentalism and how people react to it, comparing Pearl and Maxine as well as how Maxine is just looking for a way to be famous without being exploited. I also see Maxine as breaking a cycle (in her own way) that Pearl unfortunately couldn’t. I also loved the 80s immersion. I thought they did it absolutely perfectly. Just loved the 80s crime thriller of it all. I also got a little giallo from it a bit. Obviously from the gloved killer but also with the pacing and Maxine being stalked. I liked the update though, rather than being a woman sedated and drove to madness like in a usual giallo, Maxine had full agency. I loved this movie and cannot wait for a rewatch!! Thanks for the video!

This is the best, most well thought out analysis of MAXXXINE that I have seen so far. I was debating seeing it a second time at the cinema but I am definitely going to now. Subscribed.

Spot on analysis. I absolutely loved it. I really loved that the detail of how each of the murders are people that encapsulated all that fundamentalist mindsets have an issue with. Great movie with a great message and great analysis ❤

haven't finished this video yet ( i fear this franchise means a Lot to me and watching this got me a little overexcited so i had to take a break,... ) but this is SUCH a great analysis. a lot of what you're saying has been on my mind since i watched the movie as well and you've also brought up even more great points for me to think about. i have more i want to add but my words are a bit scrambly right now so i may edit if i can figure out how to put my thoughts into words but Loving this video so far !! will definitely have to check out more of your videos at some point. :-3

This entire Trilogy is easily the best, most consistent, thoughtful Trilogy I've ever seen in film, let alone horror. Each movie is genre defining honestly. The filmmaking is insane, and the acting is top tier with the scripts being so well realized. Maxxxine is out of left field in a way that other people besides me didn't expect, and I think that's perfect. This is a series constantly changing shape, and it would've been terrible if they isn't do something wild.

It's got a huge early 80s Depalma influence. Including the odd house on Hollywood hill. Through it's not the Chemosphere from DePalma's Body Double

Pearl is still my favorite of the trilogy. Maxxxine was really dope for most of the movie but I just wasn't feeling most of the 3rd act. I understand what they were going for stylistically and I thought they did a phenomenal job for the most part but I don't think they stuck the landing. It just got to be too campy for me. It did get back on track though during the final 5 or 10 minutes. The pay off with the killer and his identity was very predictable but that's not what bothered me. It's how they just went too satire with the reveal. I gave it a decent 6.7 outta 10. Mia Goth is without a doubt the queen of horror right now
