Oh boy do I have a major update on this process. Someone had bought some Dish Gel that they would use in their dish washing machine and didn't care for it for whatever reason. I read the label, and it said that it "Dissolves tough food particles.". The label also says NOT to mix with bleach. So, I loaded up a tote with about 80 sheets of old plastic foundation and dumped a couple of cups along with hot water and let soak for 3 weeks. !! WOW !! When I triple rinsed the batch, most of the debris was released and in solution. I then soaked in bleach solution for a week. Guess what? No pressure washer required. They easily sprayed clean as a whistle with a Turbo Jet nozzle. Which begs the question,; what is the strongest soak solution? Obviously, a scouring agent is a big improvement. Maybe lye soap?

Wow Bro you are working way to hard at beekeeping! Just make some beetle grease and put it on top of the end bars every time you see a beetle! This easy trick will make every beetle and mite leave the hive! The bees will eat it and move it all over the hive and no nasty critters will want to stay in the hive! Let's keep beekeeping easy and fun to do!😁

Unscrew the tip and clean the hole by using a piece of wire, I use a tool with multi-sized cleaners for carburetor jets. If the tip hole gets a little plugged it will make a difference. I believe all food glycerin is the same. good luck.

Tanglefoot spray. Nice. I've used the tub style that looks like honey-butter. I once had a bad problem with gnat-like pests. I noticed they liked to land on string or skinny sticks like skewers or similar form. I applied some tanglefoot with a popsicle stick onto a wire to hang near the garbage. At the end of the day the wire was covered. The tanglefoot is super sticky. I use Isopropyl to remove it from the fingers if needed.

The bees cleaned up boxes and wet cappings on Monday and Tuesday. Gathered dry cappings and treated and stored frames yesterday. Cleaned and stored supers early this morning. if you use the burgess fogger you will need to use a medium sized mason jar to hold the liquid. If you try to use the container that comes with the fogger it won't work. Because the liquid in the container will not be deep enough to reach the bottom of the intake valve on the fogger.
@jeffwillard24177 ай бұрын
You are correct, that's why I use a pint glass jar. It is on the fogger in the video.

Are you still using this technique with success? Looking for a new way to treat mites other than just the oxalic acid cause I have a couple log hives that just have little holes in them for entrances and my vaporizer won’t fit in the hole but my fogger would I usually just treat with mineral oil but this would be much better
@jeffwillard24179 ай бұрын
A big yes I'm still using it, my bee inspector was here a couple of weeks ago and went through my hives, we talked afterwards and said that he popped out a bunch of drone cells and did not find one Varroa mite inside, so yes this may the best treatment for Varroa. It's very effective, easy to apply and the equipment is inexpensive, I'll never switch to anything else.

@jeffwillard24179 ай бұрын
The Clorox is just a disinfectant, I've mentioned it several times to reduce it to 1/4 to 1/2 cup per tub. The Dawn Dish detergent and not some copy of Dawn always worked to soften the cell cups to pop right out with the pressure washed. The video proved it, I don't know what else to say..

No just keep them loose fitting in the tub.
@TheDuckofDoom.9 ай бұрын
I tried boiling water, mine don't have any recycle marks to be sure of the polymer I took a guess that they would be made out of polypropylene because of the hardness and flexibility and PP is standard for things that need to be durable, chemically inert, and sanitized with hot water, but they softened and shriveled in less than a minute (Both for a full plastic frame and a foundation from a wood frame). So they certainly are not PP [maybe wax would have a hard time sticking to PP?] I might try a few modifications on the detergent recipe, I have the supplies and reasonable chemistry knowledge. My pressure washer is in storage right now so if I can get it to spray off with a garden hose nozzle, or just to loosen in a day rather than a couple weeks then I'll try to remember to update this. Temperature can make also a big difference in some chemical reactions, generalized they say 10c/20f doubles or halves a reaction rate. With fats, being just below verses just above the melting point can be an order of magnitude difference, which is why soap is made with melted fat.
