I finally made a video that shows the ants reaction to a Neverwet coated barrier and I used the meanest ants in North America, the South American Fire Ant. Hi Desmond, That is probably the only thing they are good for and its funny because I have done the same thing, plus I like to see the SHB larva get attacked like they have done to my hives.

I checked the company's website, and in Commercial Products they have a Two-Part system for wood, concrete, etc. A base coat, followed 45 min later by the top coat. And they say to use Air Atomization only. No clue about usefulness to this purpose, but, it's there.

@@TimeSurfer206 I just got the final word from Rust-Oleum and they stated that Neverwet has been discontinued. I am contacting another company called Aculon to possibly have some of their hydrophobic coating sent to me for testing. It looks like the SHB Theater is coming back out. Its just another speed bump in the road of life..

I do believe that they make a liquid spray bottle for glass, look on Amazon.. I looked at your video its a good idea but here in Florida if filled with water it would be a swimming pool for Mosquito larva so it would need to be filled with mineral oil.

@@jeffwillard2417 it's upside down in the video. So it's not made to hold water but bee an umbrella for sticky ant guard. We have mosquitoes here too...and water cups would get drunk by animals!

Sprayed on a aluminum pie tin and placed between the ground and hive stand works well and they won't rust but the ways to use Neverwet are endless.

Hello 1WWW, I may work but the wood expand and contracts with moisture so much it may not hold up. Now if you can use a Neverwet coated aluminum metal like flashing or a pie plate placed horizontally between the ground and your bee hives that will give you the greatest protection. Good luck..

We build our own stands, 51" long x 18" deep x 10" tall and on metal legs about 8" tall. Is it possible to surround the entire space around each hive stand with Neverwet coated barrier to keep the ants out of the inner area? Right now I'm using cat cans with water in them and the bees are drowning in them. Ugh.

There is a couple of why you can use this, 1. Spray Neverwet directly on the metal legs. 2. Take aluminum pie tins and spray the inside then turn them facing downward on top of a brick and place the stand on top of the pie tin. Good luck.

I don't understand which type of Neverwet to buy. On Amazon I see multi-surface, fabric, glass cleaner, all listed under Neverwet. Which one works for the ants?

Hi Tammy, I have seen different ideas from various people and the usual approach is to create a horizontal barrier between the ground and hive. A Common one is using a pie plate as in cooking they make steel and aluminum, I think I would go for the aluminum so it won't rust. Place a block or a piece of treated 4"x 4" or 6"x 6" on the ground next the coated pie plate (Neverwet side facing down) then your hive or it stand stand. The ways to use it are endless, check out Beesource.com or Beemaster.com for even more ideas. Good luck..

they don't actually sacrifice themselves, there are air bubbles and they can breathe perfectly fine, the ants rotate in and out. You should probably watch a different documentary, lol.

Well actually the ants on the bottom do sacrifice themselves to protect the queen, larva and remaining fire ants. They provide a barrier against the small fish that eat the ants on the very bottom layer protecting the rest of the fire ant hive, I didn't say that they drowned. I'm pretty sure that Nat Geo and Smithsonian don't use computer graphics (CG) in their documentaries to show fish eating the fire ants.
