It looks like they use a remanufactured AMR500 which is a good thing the new China made units have smaller drive pulley bearing and are cheaply made and the rotor coating they use flakes off in chunks especially when used as a draw thru subjected to gasoline. The refurbished ones are drying up harder to find.

The entire brake assembly on the front needs to be clocked 90 degrees so the wheel cylinder is positioned at the top, and the shoes perpendicular to the ground (just like the rear brakes). The brakes will not function otherwise.

@@vwmcgraw it's curious for sure. From what I could see it looked like the brake assembly was done correctly, with everything in its place, it was just 90° off. Good luck with your bug!

My 71 Where the battery area use to be, they fixed it by bolting in a piece of Plywood. The metal is still underneath that, it's just being held in place by bolts. I got a new section of floor pan to put in place. I also have to do some floor repair at the gas, brake, and clutch pedal area. If your in the Oregon Weather I hope the weather is treating you well, up here in Washington the cold has put me to a stop working in the unheated garage. Can't wait to see more.

Wife and I just bought our first VW , a 1969 Beetle . The first thing I did was replace the shift rod bushings . My shifter was so loose like yours and now very tight and precise going into gears . Look up here on KZbin ( Aircoooled Vintage Works , Shift Rod Bushings . Made of heavy duty Delrin Plastic . THis will be the last bushing your car will ever need . Both shifter and transmission boot are under $100 . Mkes a great difference .
