Really wish roblox put issues like this into their wiki with solutions. Newer developers like me at one point, will rely on PlayerAdded blindly without understanding yields and lua threads.

I got here from your devforum post. I know this is a long shot, but is any of this salvagable? Curious to understand how it works because I would like to make something similar.

the roblox code ai helper told my about a plugin property that simply doesnt exist. i didnt even use it for a code snipper but just document exploration! the real reason why it did this "ghost response" is because the thing i was looking for is seemingly not possible ATM but still the fact it delulu'd itself an answer is ridonculous

large language models are just that - language models. they are good at language and should not be trusted on anything else, especially facts.

it's just like the wiki, it's only good for detailed summaries and writing basic blocks of text but it is really unreliable because AI runs off public information from the internet (almost identical to wikipedia which can be edited by anyone at anytime, chatgpt is accessing its information on whats available online which yes can be very faulty and dependent on its own algorithm)
@weemarbАй бұрын
well, to be fair, I've been learning html, css, JavaScript, react, etc. and chatgpt is pretty good at helping me with those. so it seems like it's good for really common information like those but not so much when when it comes to obscure libraries or something like the built in functions of Roblox. besides, roblox's technical documentation is excellent, along with mdn for the stuff I've been learning myself.

I think it would have been helpful to show the scheduler priority graph and where task.spawn/defer within that scope. I like the practical demo, but it can get confusing if this is the first time someone's hearing about this. Great video, as always.

Studio AI is completely useless in my experience. It gives really wrong answers and when I attempt to guide it in the right direction it freezes...
@tyridge7714Ай бұрын
I like your content but it's strange to make a video about how good AI coding is or comparing models, and then not show people what model you're using lol From the looks of it you're using GPT 4o/the default model. This is significantly worse at coding then o1 preview or mini
@sleitnick1Ай бұрын
I'm using whatever the defaults are. The point is to show that the average person that comes across AI and tries to get help might run into issues. It's especially troubling when the built-in version in Studio isn't accurate either.
@remains2246Ай бұрын
i know this isn't your point but o1-preview and o1-mini get this wrong too

You can use AI if you know how to code
@depralexcrimsonАй бұрын
exactly what you wrote. If you have no clue what you're trying to do you're in for a ride... if you know what you're trying to do and mostly how to do it but want to do it faster you ask the AI exactly what you want and micro-fix it's mistakes yourself, improved my output by at least tenfolds times lol, instead of finishing a project in 2 weeks i can do it in a matter of hours nowadays. and it even handles the documentation part too, it just has to happen as you go otherwise you overwhelm it.
@epixertyАй бұрын
i use it for math formulas because i suck
@depralexcrimsonАй бұрын
actually goated for math, you can ask it any question in raw format and it always answers correctly, it has only failed me like twice throughout a semester, it's way faster than reading the books themselves and it explains way better and more concise than any book out there even the most advanced concept. like i basically give it an example math formula and it tells me with accuracy what it actually is and how to solve it in the easiest way possible.

Don't trust it not only with technical documentation but even telling it if you want code or something because it uses its reference and understanding.
@clousiveАй бұрын
This is why i trust ai only with fetching methods and do research on that method on the documentation.
@MinikingPlaysАй бұрын
as i always say, AI is great if you wanna speed up what you already know, dont ask him to "solo" your development or it will mess it up
@Kitsune_DevАй бұрын
To be fair your example is super unfair, I'm pretty sure even devs don't know exactly what task.defer does, we only know that it doesn't run immediately but we don't know the exact timing, I also thought it runs on the next frame 🤷♂ even the documentation is confusing
@sleitnick1Ай бұрын
But that's the point! If people don't know how it works, they might just blindly trust the results of the AI. The original release of this feature went into detail about how it works.
@Kitsune_DevАй бұрын
@@sleitnick1I think people should already have common sense to double check sources online 😅 I understand you’re trying to educate people, it’s sad that you have to do that 😂
@sleitnick1Ай бұрын
I completely missed Claude's "Performance Impact" list. It's entirely wrong. It claims that 'spawn' is more resource-intensive because it creates a new thread immediately. The truth: 'defer' ALSO creates a thread immediately. It just doesn't get executed yet. Don't trust AI for technical documentation. It will mislead you, and you will pay for the mistakes when things don't behave as you thought they would. Always rely on actual documentation, not AI.
@Kitsune_DevАй бұрын
It's expected since there's not a lot of Lua and Luau code for it to train on anyway and it doesn't really know what Roblox is when compared to JS, C, Python, etc if you feed it the right data it'd be able to do a good job you should try Luau GPT, it's created specifically for Luau and Roblox
@sleitnick1Ай бұрын
@@Kitsune_Dev The average person using AI looking for answers isn't going to know to do that. Also, this isn't a language issue, it's a documentation issue. It clearly has some sense of what "spawn" and "defer" do, but it interprets the documentation incorrectly. This is an AI issue, not a data issue.
@Kitsune_DevАй бұрын
@@sleitnick1 that's the "average person's" problem 😂AI is a tool, if the user is not using it correctly then that's their own fault. I don't think you're wrong but I also don't think you're 100% right either, to be fair Roblox Documentation has been pretty bad up until now
@depralexcrimsonАй бұрын
@@Kitsune_Dev yeah i agree with you, also javascript and its frameworks is also a good example of not having enough newest code to train on, no matter what you do you will get unusable trash code and it will switch in conventions inbetween answers lol.
@sleitnick1Ай бұрын
@@Kitsune_Dev I agree that AI is a tool. But I gave these models a very simple prompt, and it gave a confident answer. People don't know what they don't know: They might not realize the limitations these models have on the info being asked, and yet the models act as if they're providing truthful data. This is hard to falsify as a user unless you already know the right answer. I think it's good for people to take AI results with a grain of salt, and not as absolute truth. That's the point of this video.
