Apples or oranges. They sound very close. There is a slight difference but it’s so small that it’s just being neurotic at that point.

I have both these pickups also. Tremonti bridge has better low end/low mids at gain, however the neck pickup is just average. The Jazz is better, however my favourite that I own is the 57/08.

Prs bridge pickups sound like if the tone was 30-40% rolled off... somewhat sounda like a bright neck pickup IMO

What an interesting comparission, my friend! I think that Gibson custom sound incredible with seymour duncan pickups. But It's not necessary in my opinion, because with Gibson original pickups, you have "the custom sound"!. With seymour duncan pegasus and sentinent pickups, it's possible obtain the same sound with another nice brand of electric guitar. But, "the Gibson custom sound", it's unique!

I can dig it. Fat 60s in the bridge is where it's at for that Guitar. The bare knuckle sound great in mid/ neck. Keep fot 60s in bridge cos it's Fattt and zingy.

If you want to keep the Gibson sound but enjoy the articulation of the Pegasus, put an A5 magnet in the 498T.

The SD's are cool but the 498T and 490R sound better. Many guitarists assume that there is something better out there than the 498T and 490R but these pickups are hard to beat. The 498T is one of the greatest pickups of all time and so is the 490R....they compliment each other perfectly.

Sometimes, sound good playing it alone doesn't mean it's gonna sound good when mixed with the band..JB may not be that pleasantly alone but it can make people goosebumps when mixed with the band..

Comparing a set of high end fat 60 Vs entry level bare knuckle...probs not the most fair comparison , boot camp Vs Tex mex would be closer

Hey Charlie, it's been a year, but after watching multiple different covers, yours has the best fluidity. It's like the original, especially the solo. Awesome work! I hope I get to play this on my own someday. :)

I have the 498T/490R in my LP Custom and I really like them.. My guitar sounds great through most amps... If I want any extra distortion I can get it via a pedal... But for most things they are great straight through

Both sound great. Subjective. Suhr sounded more balanced in the bridge, less uppermidrange. That may make a JB stand out in a mix better though. Both great pickups.

In the years since this video - I've come to agree with you. I adore the Pegasus/Sentient and never find them lacking no matter what guitar they're put in, but Gibson really got those pickups right for this kind of application. Playing heavier music or downtuned however, duncans all the way

The Gibsons were better on the bridge. Seymours on the Neck. However, for the difference it makes... I don't think changing from Gibson pickups is worth the hassle, unless you specifically want active pickups or something very specific.

Great video Charlie! The Tremonti pickups in your video sound WAY better than the JB/Jazz to me so that goes to show you how individual pickup preference is. Even clean, the Tremonti pickups (especially neck) seem to have great midrange punch and the JB/Jazz sound hollow and flat by comparison. Perhaps being in the room brings out that "sparkle" that you mentioned but the lack of midrange punch really kills the overall tone as far as I'm concerned. Gave me a better sense for the pickups, man. Thanks a lot.

I prefer the 490r in this comparison, however I'm generally partial to Alnico V (specifically the Duncan '59). Also I don't like pickup covers. They dampen the tone to my ears.

They sound very close, I can’t hear a huge difference when using the same guitar and amp. So much so that I’ve decided to keep the SDs on my Cort for the time being. Maybe the hot rodded set is underrated.

Gibson has more clarity in bridge distorted tones but not as tight. I think bare knuckle pickups would be focused and clear with the string to string separation they're known for.

Put the 60's back in.... imo. Put in a better cap and pots and try different strings. I use Curt Mangans with my 60 strat pickups and they are an amazing combination. If you want to sound like a Humbucker buy a humbucker guitar first. IMO !!! But I have spent a fortune learning these things.

490r permormed much better on most of sitiuations. But in real life Jazz Model has a lot of more sustain, the chords are deeper and you can also note a clear difference between the bridge 498t. 490r is better if you like the same tone in B and N, also if you dont use it for "epic neck solos". Personally, I world suggest Tone Rider Classic alnico IV.
