Seymour Duncan JB Jazz vs Suhr SSV+ SSV - Pickup shootout and demo in the PRS SC245

Today I'm putting a set of Seymour Duncan Hot Rodded Humbuckers against the SSV+ bridge and SSV neck from Suhr. Have to say the more time I'm spending with the Suhr set the more they're growing on me. Which ones did you prefer? Let me know in the comments!

I had a DSH+ for a few years; the harmonic richness coming from these Suhr pickups is mind-blowing.

Both sets sound good! I use Suhr pups while my friend has the JB/Jazz, both always sound very good to me.

That was a truly great review. Based solely on your thoughts and comparisons I ordered and just received an uncovered SSV+ 53mm for the bridge of my 1996 American Stratocaster plus HHS. I had a JB in there and actually swapped in a super distortion and although both are good in their own right I just need more dynamics out of the bridge pickup. I will install it tonight and give my thoughts on how it sounds and how it coil splits. Thanks man!

What stood out for me was the sound of the split coils. All surprisingly good! That guitar is stunning.

Charlie, I just wanted to thank you for your video which convinced me to swap in a SSV+ in to the bridge of my strat. The result is unbelievable. It's exactly the sound I've been trying to get on an HSS setup. The string articulation and the openness was apparent right away and now after about 10 days of playing I can say that I am really, truly satisfied. Thanks again.

I think a better combination if you're going to Suhrs pups to have a Doug Aldrich in the bridge, with a SSV in the neck. I have this combo in my guitar and it sounds killer !

I would try the SSV+ bridge with the Jazz neck. I had that combination in a Strat before, but I think it might work even better in your PRS.

Thanks for sharing your work - it’s really helpful!! I think the SDs have a fullness which may or not be a good thing, I think a screw adjustment or height adjustment might bring them even closer to each other. Both sounded great, but definitely distinct, I wonder how they felt when rolling back the volume.

Both sound great. Subjective. Suhr sounded more balanced in the bridge, less uppermidrange. That may make a JB stand out in a mix better though. Both great pickups.

Sometimes, sound good playing it alone doesn't mean it's gonna sound good when mixed with the band..JB may not be that pleasantly alone but it can make people goosebumps when mixed with the band..

They sound very close, I can’t hear a huge difference when using the same guitar and amp. So much so that I’ve decided to keep the SDs on my Cort for the time being. Maybe the hot rodded set is underrated.

The crazy thing is: it sounds to me like the SSH+ is quite spanky and matches the Jazz sound extremely well. I think the SSV matches the JB better too (both are a bit bassier).

I liked the Suhr better than the SD! They sound very round and open, the SD sound kinda nasal to me.

Both SDs have more bottom end and lower mids than the Suhrs. Very good demo by the way..👍

I prefer SD. I had (different ) Suhrs and swapped them for SD distortions. The thing is that SD is more rounded especially at the bottom. I don't know what's going with SSV+ bottom side but it's a bit flabby even in this video.

Funnily enough I've just swapped out the Suhrs for a different set of Duncans and I MUCH prefer them. The Suhrs were cool but had a weird dynamic feel to them and I really went off them after a while

Seymour Duncan's sound notably better in my opinion with distorsion. Cleans maybe a bit Suhr

Suhrs...all the way...they have a very sweet smooth finish on the decay. The JB specially does not. Kind of flat sounding.
