P0440 alone can be a variety of issues which makes it very hard to diagnose without a smoke machine. Also vehicles vary. For example Chrysler is a lot different to diagnose vs Toyota because their systems have different layouts/design.

You didnt line up the camshaft and crankshaft lines on the belt with the timing marks on the 3 sprockets? This is a big no no,if you skip a tooth you wont have a reference to go by. You must follow these processes by the book.
@sickofthebullshit1967 Жыл бұрын
If you try doing this with a new timing belt its not that easy to get it over all the pulleys and crank sprocket. There are timing marks on your new timing belt that should be lined up with the timing marks on the camshaft sprockets and backing plate,all 3 marks must be in alighnment then you must also line the crankshaft sprocket backing plate timing mark up with the mark on the engine block and the dot on the sprocket with the line on the belt. With a new belt you will have to remove the top pulley to gain enough slack to get the belt over all the pulleys,water pump pulley and crankshaft sprocket. This is critical as if you get it wrong you will cause damage to your engine internals. Although the 1mz-fe is a non interference engine if you get the timing wrong it will run like a bag of shit and will cause premature damage to the internals. If you are changing your timing belt its good practice to also change your oil seals and water pump,these timing belts usually last 60,000 miles so you might as well replace the water pump and oil seals and pulleys while your at it. Aisin makes a oem kit with everything needed to do the job,but theres a few tools needed to do this job-camshaft sprocket locking tool,breaker bar,oil seal removal tool,and a hi torque impact wrench that can produce up to 700nm of breakaway torque. Plus a 22mm socket and various other size metric sockets.

AWESOME VIDEO. ESPECIALLY the part about holding back the pivot arm! mine worked great except it's not shifting past the mid points and stays locked after 40mph or so at 3000+ rpm. Now it's giving me a P-1778 instead of P-1777. Mechanical is not responding. I think it's the brand of step motor but i'm gonna double check all the DTC parameters first.

One that had me stumped for awhile was the position of the cam gear closest to the firewall - that gear will be under valve spring compression in order to align the gear mark w/ the back cover mark, the other cam gear aligns with no compression on the valve springs. Clips or plastic zip ties to hold belt in place.
