Im 33 this year. Ragnarok will be forever a game that will be instilled in my mind and heart. This game proves that adventure knows no limits. And friends along the way is the cherry on top that makes the game more fun and the grind so addicting.

Mmo without players just like empty world

32 year old Filipino here. I have a lot of core memories from this game, especially with its vast world and its unforgettable soundtrack. I fondly remember buying stacks of prepaid ISP cards and using a crappy modem with like 50 kbps just to be able to play this game. Taking my first few steps crossing that bridge in the novice area with "One Step Closer" playing in the background was quite magical. I'd imagine that's how being isekai'd would feel. I started out in Payon, hung around Payon Dungeon and kept partying up with a lot of people like me who didn't even know what we were supposed to be doing other than killing porings and zombies to level up. Loved the social aspects when the game just started and everyone was just vibing. When I got into high school, I bought official guide books of this game and would nerd out with my classmates. I was also quite the naive and idealistic kid at the time, so it was quite a frustrating experience getting introduced to online scammers, chiksilogs, and other scummy people for the first time, lol. I had like 2 phases with the game: during its initial release/run (like 2004-2012) and later on in my mid 20s (2017s?) when I started playing on the Ragnarok RE:Start server. During the latter, I was more knowledgeable of the game and so I was able to engage more with its end-game stuff like boss hunting, forging, peddling, selling leeching services, and of course the War of Emperium sieges while vibing to my fave track from the game "Wanna Be Free!!." God those were such fun days, hanging out with my guildmates after WoE and just trolling/fooling around in West Prontera (/gg). Just sad that people sometimes have to drift apart cuz of life. Even sadder that I don't really have anyone irl to share these core memories of mine with. Anyways, quite happy that I stumbled upon this video. Thank you for your amazing work, taking me on a very nostalgic trip down memory lane.

I spent so many hours on this game back in the day. I only remember bits and pieces of the actual gameplay but very much remember the friends I made and the interactions with the guild. I wish I could remember any of their names or even the guild itself to see how life has been for everyone. I remember working on an area (maybe it was a seasonal dungeon?) like a christmas workshop theme. Fighting skeletons, farming slimes and hunting mvp cards.

Still remember and feel that im playing this game, even though it’s been 15+ years. The music still got me. Sometimes when im feel sad or alone, I played this song and imagine that im in this game, chatting and relax with random people. Tried to play the mobile version but still different because what I seek is not only the game but the people, I don’t like grinding all day long and how they make us login everyday just to do the daily quest. I need chill, relax, and friendly game that we can just choose where and when to go in the game.

This belongs in a museum

A game like this would never work in the world we live today. These were simplier times, were we had almost no problems to think about, most of us grown with this game when we were teens. Not only that, the world today also changed, many of the systems that this game had makes no sense in the world of today. When you see the updated versions of this game, with modern designs, you can see what I'm talking about. It's much less about this sensation of having fun and more about using nostalgia to sell people a flawed game, full of systems that makes you keep playing this lifeless game. MMOs as a whole aren't viable in 2024.

~man in mid 30s here- Remembering 20years ago when we first time playing on the opening, we must walk together via forest to the Prontera, trying to kill or dodge those monsters that agro to us, the struggle is real after few months there will be so much Priest transportation services out there. Internet back then was so bad and laggy, like 5kbps speed for $50 a month, that gonna cost us like $500 these days. That’s mind blowing how little speed we need to play these RO Korean basically break the internet with best MMORPG on those days, definitely this RO was kinda laid back and enjoyable yet so complex inside. I thought RO was only booming in Asia, never heard it was world phenomenal, because back days internet didn’t really tell much. Also I knew some of my friends got girlfriends in real world and married to her because they were knew each others just from chatting in the game. There’s none to these days game more enjoyable and booming than this

I hope i can play it in my android, not the X nor the rebirth but the original RO that i am playing in internet cafe on 2004, i Missed this and Diablo 2 plus MU
