I'm still with the man I met 15 years ago on iRO. He took me as I was, never asking me to make a bomber or a champ to be more efficient. We worked together with what we had to achieve our goals. When we finally made our first hundred million zeny and dropped our first MvP card, we decided to give it a try for real, to find out if we worked as well in real life as we do in-game. It turns out we did, and now every day I wake up thinking, "Just another day in Jawai (paradise)" Sitting and reminiscing with him over this video has been so much fun. The memories feel so real. It reminds me of why I fell in love with him to begin with. From stories I've heard around the internet, it seems RO is especially conducive to romance and relationship building, moreso than other MMOs it seems. I wonder why that is. I'd love to hear other people's thoughts on this as well as their own love stories - even if they were only fleeting ❤

Ive always said a similar thing. I do feel like after so many years this is becoming a serious thing that members of rune midgard really have life changing or altering experiences under their belt. I used to tell people back then but with the community so fractured, it was hard to meet anyone who could confirm my insane allegations. It all just sounds typical fan boy from the outside but in this case it's an unspoken IYKYK of indescribable proportions, just like the disturbingly heavy nostalgia no other media, game, or event has ever left. I give iRo credit for providing the environment i am most proud to be apart of. I'm more an iRo kid than a 90s kid, and im pretty damn 90s so that's heavy. Thank you for scratching the urge to leave a comment because it reminds us, the experienced, that we were never alone in the novel experience of having fallen into what i think was really the closest vision of an MMORPG and what could happen through community-based gaming. I know a lot of ppl jumped ship to WoW, but we all know it was a rebound game and lots of folks got married to the rebound out of spite and familiarity. Nothing is ragnarok and after 20 years, i have to tell people im from "the old internet". My biggest regret was thinking things would only get better into the future, and not realizing it was the bitcoin of gaming. Get on early, dont miss the airship to Juno(or Yuno, your choice) a flash in the pan, and a whole lifetime of intimate personal development squashed into a couple fast and DEDICATED years. (For those who dont understand the difference; in WoW you are pushed by time constraints and game mechanisms to pull hours and be consistent, you HAD to be there, the game punished laziness. In ragnarok we'd spend 18 hours on the computer just to hang in town and be with friends, maybe level or hunt cuz were bored or feeling frisky, but the game barely had a story, MVP monsters spawned regularly each day, no pressure to do anything at ALL. And yet we pulled hours that would make people sick today.) Ive never been able to convey to an outsider the accurate rendition, but seeing a 15 year partnership forged in iRo is so completely unsurprising to me, "well, yeah, of course." Thanks for making it to the end of what was supposed to be a "lol i remember" comment. This always happens lol.

@@johnnyMcSheep I cannot really put it into text, its like the whole thing. I guess it's better felt with an excerpt (sorry, it will be long, i get very emotional when writting about Ro): " Imagine being at school, its almost leaving time, your parents come pick you up. You lunch extra fast and run to the computer room, you turn on that windows XP and while MSN messenger is loading you don't hesitate to double click on the ragnarok online desktop icon, its going to take a while to load, but you know it will be worth it. You hear the nifelheim song while you login into your account, you hear the "bell" SFX and load your lvl 23 archer into the entrance of payon dungeon, right where you left it the past night. You start receiving the "hello messages" from all the guild members while you hear the payon theme (29:30), someone invites you to a party of 2, an acolyte and a thief. You all buff yourself outside of the dungeon and enter to kill some skeletons, poporings, and the usual zoombie while the intense music plays. After a while, you go to payon dungeon level 2 (theme at 31:40) to just get your first Appe O' Archer hat! Now its getting late, your parents are calling you to dinner, but you decide to take the sandwitch to the room, you eat it while everybody in the party is sitting around payon dungeon level 2, you're chatting about that rare Skeleton Soldier card the thief wants to get once he's an assasin, or dream about participating in your guild War of Emperium once you all get the level for it. Its almost sleep time by now, and you got to level very close to be a hunter with the party, the acolyte decides to go to make her class change quest, and you decide to go with the thief to level up at Toy Factory level 1, to try to kill some gift boxes. You miss a lot and sometimes the box hits you like 1K and kills you. Decide to go back to payon city and just chill for the rest of the day.... You go to sleep, thinking how cool the priest was when helping, how hard your double strafe was hitting at level 10 and how much difference that apple O' archer was doing by giving you that extra Dexterity. Tomorrow is a good day again..! "

It is the best MMO I have ever seen and played. The classic 1-1 and 2-1 classes was the best experience ever, with so many builds and combinations without any real META yet. This game was amazing because people made it awesome! There was very little grinding need and money greed back then, very social often sitting and chatting by campfire and in towns for hours and hours. Building up your guild, helping friends level or gear up, it was all so organic, so nice and pure... filled with emotions and love. Every map is etched with tons of memories for all the players combined and all the characters they ever played. The card drop hunting was the best edition which never made old content die out. We will never see something as beautiful as Ragnarok again, it was truly a gift and a treasure for our childhood !

Man.. I was quite young when RO came out. There was like this tacit hype for the game IRL; the dweebs were on Runescape and meatheads were on Tibia, but the REAL Gs somehow managed to get the pocket money to play RO. I was an anime fan so you can imagine how badly I wanted to get into literally the first anime-themed MMO I had ever seen, especially after seeing how beautiful the art was/is and seeing all the cool promo material. Unfortunately I was poor and couldn't play. One day though they launched a free trial pass for like a week or two. I can't even begin to describe how magical it was diving into Rune-Midgard. Diving into it I was already on cloud nine just launching the client with ADSL. While I was killing the slimes I felt like I was in that one episode of Chobits which was a Dragon Quest throwback. Felt like "yeah, finally I'm here. I'm finally experiencing that same culture that I've loved so much for the first time". Even trying to figure out the mysterious UI was wonderful-- who knows what's hiding behind the next button? But the most striking thing was walking into the city for the first time and seeing all the people there with their stalls, chatting and having fun. It was so overwhelmingly exciting, this sense of discovering a whole new world full of friends and adventure. That particular moment is something that I won't be able to forget for the rest of my life.

I remember playing this for the first time and I got a Pupa Card, it was worth 300k at that time. I was so happy. I just can't unhear the casting, buff, warping and teleport sounds out of my head #nostalgic

Every time i look up ragnarok online content i read these wholesome comments. People who look back on the good old times. Makes me so happy that i wasnt the only one who feels that ragnarok online was not just a game, but truly something special.

Can't believe it's been 20 years since I first played the game. I remember sitting in Geffen just to listen to the music. Running Mag parties in Glastheim. Selling my first Emperium for big bucks.

As soon as the Prontera City song kicked in I ugly cried irl a mix of happier days but also so many MANY regrets and old wounds. Thank you regardless. EDIT: Now I vented at myself on how much past me was a better person and how I let him down. welp... step 1 for healing is acceptance, I NEEDED this, badly.

I know how you feel, I used to be a very kind and gentle individual but usually all the hate I've been around when growing up as an adult allowed me to develop but also sometimes driven to feelings of hatred that I needed some self reflection that "This isn't how I was". this self reflection can help you accept that you are indeed walking a wrong path and action needs to be taken. Hope you do find light in your journey.

So many good memories with this game, boy does RO just hit different than so many other mmo's and games I've played. I remember meeting so many good people on this game, creating a crew that used to sit in south Payon near the cliffs on IRO. Shooting the shit, most of us weren't exactly amazing at the game, we weren't top tier MVP killers or WoE addicts, it honestly felt so different to how most gamers approach games now, we had things we enjoyed, levelling alts, making money, helping others, farming items. Hell even just exploring. I can remember playing the game for years yet when I realised I had barely explored the games world at all, so many dungeons, zones, even towns I'd never touched until much later, that kept the game feeling fresh and mysterious. The worst part is I'd love to login one more time and check my characters, relive some nostalgia but I can't even login to the official servers anymore since I live in the EU and those servers got shut down a good while back. Hopefully one day I'll be able to go back.

It was absolutely massive, and every inch was handcrafted. It felt like you could explore for hours and still find some knick knack or wall hanging someone placed with thoughtful care. Every monster was hand drawn and animated, every track composed with love and attention. Logging into Ragnarok Online was like descending into a beautiful dream, there was nothing like it before it and nothing like it after.

The nostalgia just hits me on every town that my heart always remembers. Geffen, Prontera, Aldebaran, Lutie, Morocc, Alberta, Payon, Izlude, Yuno... All these places. Ragnarok Online is and will foerver be the best game I've played. Nothing beats the memories shared by the playerbase.

Still remember and feel that im playing this game, even though it’s been 15+ years. The music still got me. Sometimes when im feel sad or alone, I played this song and imagine that im in this game, chatting and relax with random people. Tried to play the mobile version but still different because what I seek is not only the game but the people, I don’t like grinding all day long and how they make us login everyday just to do the daily quest. I need chill, relax, and friendly game that we can just choose where and when to go in the game.

When im depressed and life’s been hard, I always come back to this is to reminisce all the fun and loving memories ive had with people and to go back to that feeling when we were just kids playing all day n night without any struggles in life or worries. All the stuff just hits me finishing endless tower going for mvp hunts pvps and competing in war of emperium then going back to where u guild’s safe place and talk with people is so mind refreshing. There will never be another game that can replace ragnarok and i know a lot of you will relate.

Still playing to this day~ Working on my own project server, a reimagination of what RO should have been without ruining it with the Renewal rework.
@veeshadow7 ай бұрын
Renewal is not the one ruining it. But the business model and cash shop. If you play kRO or kRO private server foundation you will appreciate renewal than you look. If you play Genshin Impact, I gonna say there are similarities on both gameplay...
@ErukanuSenpai7 ай бұрын
@@veeshadowNo, Renewal ruined it for many people when it came out, not to mention the "balanced" 3rd jobs that effectively destroyed the Tri-Force of RPG gaming and therefore the Teamplay.
@veeshadow7 ай бұрын
@@ErukanuSenpai Again you only said what you have seen. If you gonna implement classic gameplay then : 1. Refining will destroy your equipment if failed above +4. Renewal increase it to +10 and fail only degrade or keep refines. 2. Wizard is the only effective AoE class. You can't even grind without it meaning you need to make alt to leech your main. 3. Lack of QoLs that make people can monopoly zeny and selling it for RMT. Only classic players support RMT. That's only your experience back then but I play every version of RO at least once within month per year. It's not perfect yet it does its job to improve the game gradually over years...

32 year old Filipino here. I have a lot of core memories from this game, especially with its vast world and its unforgettable soundtrack. I fondly remember buying stacks of prepaid ISP cards and using a crappy modem with like 50 kbps just to be able to play this game. Taking my first few steps crossing that bridge in the novice area with "One Step Closer" playing in the background was quite magical. I'd imagine that's how being isekai'd would feel. I started out in Payon, hung around Payon Dungeon and kept partying up with a lot of people like me who didn't even know what we were supposed to be doing other than killing porings and zombies to level up. Loved the social aspects when the game just started and everyone was just vibing. When I got into high school, I bought official guide books of this game and would nerd out with my classmates. I was also quite the naive and idealistic kid at the time, so it was quite a frustrating experience getting introduced to online scammers, chiksilogs, and other scummy people for the first time, lol. I had like 2 phases with the game: during its initial release/run (like 2004-2012) and later on in my mid 20s (2017s?) when I started playing on the Ragnarok RE:Start server. During the latter, I was more knowledgeable of the game and so I was able to engage more with its end-game stuff like boss hunting, forging, peddling, selling leeching services, and of course the War of Emperium sieges while vibing to my fave track from the game "Wanna Be Free!!." God those were such fun days, hanging out with my guildmates after WoE and just trolling/fooling around in West Prontera (/gg). Just sad that people sometimes have to drift apart cuz of life. Even sadder that I don't really have anyone irl to share these core memories of mine with. Anyways, quite happy that I stumbled upon this video. Thank you for your amazing work, taking me on a very nostalgic trip down memory lane.

I was 16 yrs old when I started playing RO Indian server. This gave me a lot of friends now I am 35, married and still play in some random server for relaxation. But 2004 - 2010 was the golden period.
This game was truly special, the other mmorpg during that time of my life was Nexia, and RO was just way ahead, it was at the time where dial up connection are still the thing and before 3D games fully took hold. A shame i never got to enjoy it fully since I wasn't able to grind to the high levels being an uninformed young gamer at that time. It was eventually price gated and my pocket money was not enough for it.

I even remember the first time meeting death in this game. I was 13, It was next to alberta, I'm hitting willow and it dropped a card, the newbie me didn't know which monster can loot things, so i thought it was the creamy next to it and yeah i hit it and die, and then my friend who sits next to me scream that the poring is the one that took it. So we rush back killing porings nearby and still can't find it. 😅 i guess other player already killed it. Good times 😂, i could just sit all day chatting with friends in payon. Now im 31, i miss the good old days, even though ro still up and running right now, it just doesn't feel the same. But still, RO pc always have a special place in my heart.

I remember in my very first week in the game I got a Hydra card and got scammed by some player saying it was garbage but he'b buy from me for a reasonable price. I had nothing so I sold to him for 50k or something and thought I was rich, just to find out later that day it was worth 4 million zenny. Oh well, this tought me this valuable lesson we all eventually learn about trusting others, specially strangers, and making decisions without thinking or proper research. I'm glad I only lost a virtual item, but the lesson stayed with me for the rest of my life.

One of the things ive missed from RO is the background music setting the mood, as well as the huge and varying landscapes that make the world feel vast and mysterious. Nowadays, most games are relatively small in size, and do not have the same difference in atmosphere. In RO you can go from a happy go lucky city, to a hidden labyrinth, to a modern lab where ghosts of the past kill anything on site, to towers to face gods, and down to hell to face literal satan. RO was one of a kind, and ive honestly played a ton of games in trying to capture the same type of feel but nothing compares. That being said, i can without the horrific grind and some clunky systems, as well as relatively low ceiling for skill expression. Wish they made a real RO successor.
