What a perfect Tenkara stream. You’re killing me though. It’s 104 degrees today in North Texas. In less than 2 weeks I’ll be standing in a stream in Colorado for a couple weeks! I love it: after snagging your fly in the tree behind you your response was “Not desirable”. If it had been me I would have to edit out my “response”! 🤔🤷🏻‍♂️🙄Keep em coming! Neil.

I realized that it is not very clear in the video how the rod broke, and that I should have maybe explained. The fly got stuck on the tree behind me on a backcast, and on the forward cast the tip snapped. So, nothing to do with the rod itself. The Mizuchi is still my favorite and it will be back in business in no time:) One of the biggest advantages of American Tenkara rod companies to me is that parts are usually readily available. Also, I misspelled "trout". Sorry about that:)

That creek looked like Tenkara Heaven! Weird about your rod snapping. Didn’t really see any reason on the video for that. My Mizuchi seems like a pretty heavy duty rod. The Hellbender was less than optimal for that creek and those fish huh? But you “made lemon aid out of lemons”! DRAGONtail will get you the parts quick. Nice video! 👍👍

Thanks! I realize now that it's not very obvious in the video what caused the snap. The fly got stuck on the tree behind me and the rod snapped on the forward cast. So ya, complete user error. This type of fishing is just going to break your heart because you're not going to be able to get close enough to the big ones cuz you're going to have to get clothes you're going to spook them and then the amount the size line you're going to use you're going to get snapped off on the big fish especially in some of these Waters dude there's some really big f****** strong fish
@zisontheriver
@zisontheriver Ай бұрын
To me, both have advantages and disadvantages. The rod I used here is called Hellbender for a reason. It is designed to handle big fish, if you use it correctly. It is also 13 ft in length so I can actually high-stick over fast currents to reach pockets that I can't with my 9 ft reel rod, at least not with a decent drift. But ya, I have made the mistake before of using line that is too long and losing nice fish in the process when having to hand line, and I have caught some huge fish on my 9ft 6wt that I most likely couldn't have with the tenkara rod. Bottom line is, every time I use one method, it gives me appreciation for the other. Nothing is lame if you enjoy it.
