could you try which dac and preamp or dac preamp combo(up to similar price) match with hypex nilai and jbl 1600? starting from wiim ultra, shiit freya plus or kara, cambridge exn100, bluesound icon etc British audiophile says that its very dificult to get right preamp from different manufacturer, and some say that preamp make bigger impact on speaker paring than amp itself. would be nice if you build fully working system(exchanging nilai preamp because nilai amp with nilai preamp its around 2500 pounds, and here in uk yamaha as2200 time after time goes on sale for around 3000 pound)thanks .

The JBL you tested is not sensitive at 90. It’s much lower around 84.

I am stunned by the many postings that state they di not get the differences. am hearing via sony wf1000xm5 and an iPhone and, not saying I get the complete sonic picture, but I get some very audible differences (PP4 perhaps best but brrright, nuprime bold and not very musical, EE elegant & musical but not muscular, and PPstd perhaps the most neutral & musical?)

Hi there, First of all thanks a lot for the long and thorough work, kudos for doing this. As a physicist I appreciate that you measure impulse response. You notice yourself that differences in Impulse response are very audible. This is of course so because impulse response actually represents the F transform of the phase transfer ( over the audible domain). That phase transfer will eventually determine the spatial resolution of your soundstage due to coherence of the soundwaves. If that phase transfer is oscillating within the audible domain, that will result in lack of coherence and concomittant dampening of selective frequencies leading to particular colouring and precision. So I am quite enthusiastic about this time domain measurement.
