This is music for corporate audience, lawyers and accountants. So safe, tame, unadventurous, avoiding any daring chord or sound. So crafty performed by skillful musicians (you can't go wrong with Tim Renwick, same goes for Gary Wallis). So competent arrangements. So easy listening. What makes it even worse, verging on horridly bad, is lyrics: all of them - unrelentlessly all - about feelings and relationships, of mature family people, safe and sedate in their stable lives. And all convey not a slightest dose of true, credible feeling at all. PC achieved a feat by prefiguring AI-generated lyrics by 3 decades: it is so generic, pulp and predictable, so recycled in all its <<never take you for granted / satisfaction guaranteed / someone I can depend on>> etc. Occasionally, the only diversity - a crisis in relationship: <<I admit my fault / I accept if you go>> It is absolutely void of emotion, soulless, cold, paper mache, con mashed potato lyrics. Worse still, this writing attitude infected Mike & The Mechanics, quite often marred by the same thing. Look how Phil Collins could sing about relationships and sound true, moving, earnest, convincing, heartfelt - or Fish, or Gary Moore, to name more examples. This, instead, is corporately emotionless lyrics from a factory production line, almost a clinic for middle-age crisis in marital life, all over again. I'd listen to this well-made, well-mannered, cultured music sometimes, for a trouble-free background while sweeping a floor, if it wasn't for those ghastly, stone-cold lyrics.

My best friend in the late 70s in Tulsa was Harold "Scooter" Jones. A great, funny, and would give you the shirt off his back kind of a guy. Scooter died from polio in his late 50s. R.I.P MY FRIEND..❤

Seen him for 11th time in Glasgow 2024...audience was mainly in their 60's. Counted 3 phones video all night.... audience knew just to sit back and enjoy the moment.
I am an adolescent teen again. This came out before I was in high school. But when I heard the first few bars, I thought it was Philadelphia Freedom. Which was a monster hit at the same time.
