I absolutely love that layout plan, as it fits perfectly into my proposed takeover of a 10 by 10 spare bedroom corner. Returning after a long long hiatus to N scale, many questions. What is maximum grade ? Also the length of run appears short to accommodate the raised track over the bridges? Thank you and Merry Christmas!

Being a semi-noob (I had an N scale layout 50 years ago). I found this extremely educational. As I'm getting back into the hobby, I have layout size constraints, and thus train scale limitations. Train scales are between Z and T. I'm shooting for Z but I have a large requirement list. I'm trying to stick to a 36" x 24" size board. I was thinking of a double loop with a marshaling yard and maybe a cargo destination point or two in the middle. After watching your video, I was thinking of putting your core at the bottom of the layout for east/west traffic (right/left), and a loop for the local branch with a couple of business spurs, and a passenger terminal. Are there any software programs for track layouts, so I know the quantity of specific track pieces needed?

Thank you for sharing all the great ideas. I’ve been looking for a Lift bridge for mine because I’m installing my layout in a 20 feet long by 10 foot wide utility shed on the side of my house since I have no basement or attic so this is where my layouts gonna be. Again, thank you for all the ideas.

Oh my goodness! I stumbled upon your KZbins about designing and building a layout based on Kingsbury Street. I’m the guy who wrote the original article in Model Railroader back in 1975. Just delighted to see what you’ve done. I loved what Bill Denton did with it in N scale, but always wanted to do it in HO, like you. In ’75, when I wrote the article, I was a 23-yr-old whippersnapper. Worked in the Montgomery Ward HQ in public relations. Would walk the street on my lunch hour looking at the tracks and came up with the article. Can’t believe it’s 50 years later and the article lives on in your work. Stumbled upon Bill Denton’s layout online years ago and was blown away. Got to meet him and see layout in person. He put me wise to the Erie Railroad’s water-rail transfer facility at the foot of Erie Street, as presented in Vol. 7, No.1, of The Diamond. Not having space for a layout, I’ve done a lot of wishful planning, including a 4’x8’ full-size version of the Erie yard and barge facility. Also expanded my thinking to include a stretch of Kingsbury and the bob-tail swing bridge at the south end. Actually built the swing bridge from Central Valley bridge components. No place to put it, so it lives in a box. Would like to show you the track plans if you’re curious. Thank you for giving new life to Kingsbury Street. You should see the high-rise condos sitting where rails once ran. Best wishes.

Great to hear from you! I hope my layout makes you proud. As covered on my channel, my layout is at best proto-freelance. I drew a lot of inspiration from the real line, but I am not looking to replicate it. I really enjoyed your article and layout suggestion, and later Bill's extraction from that. My adaptation is focused on a layout I can operate with 1 to 4 people, in a space of 5.5 x 2.5 meters in HO scale, as you mention. I use the barge at the end of the line as a major traffic source and the reason to shove cars through the entire Kingsbury to the yard. The only reason I have PRR equipment is because I physically have a lot of PRR engines. This will change over time as I acquire more MILW and C&NW equipment. You’ve made me curious-I’d love to see those track plans! I think the easiest way is if you can send me a direct message on Facebook. We can safely share contact details there. P.S. There is still some track and street running left on Goose Island, but as you say, the rest has all been replaced with high-rises.

So which one is better, I have the hex frog juicer, due to our mail strike , can’t get anything from the UK at the moment, going to use on my #8 crossover x two
@DubaiTrains14 күн бұрын
I would say they are both the same. No better or worse. At the time i couldn't get any hex juicers so i had to find this alternative. I would suggest to wire and install the #8 with the functionality to juice it. So once the strike is over you can order, install and connect it.

Do you have any suggestions for a 36"x80" tabletop design on a door? I live in an apartment and that's really all the space I have. The plan I laid out is a simple double track oval around the outside, outer for passenger trains and the inner one for freight trains. There is a small two track "yard" off the inner loop for industry. There will be two mountains with tunnels (to give the effect that the trains actually go somewhere) in each rear corner with a lake edge and bridges for trains to cross the lake on the far side. The middle is mostly a small Mayberry-like town with a highway running left to right (crossing tracks) and a vertical road from the yard to the top of the layout and beyond. This creates one paved intersection with other roads being dirt or gravel. My thinking is that this will allow me to run two trains at the same time and do a bit of switching for the industries. I only hand three rules when I began this. 1) It must fit on a door. 2) it must run two trains. 3) It must have a small town made from Walthers and Woodland Scenics kits. It probably looks boring ang to grid like as the track just runs in a loop with no curves or inclines. I've watched videos like yours and I just don't have the room for anything too elaborate. Thanks for the ride around your layout.
@DubaiTrains3 ай бұрын
Hi Danny, there are plenty of door sized designs available. I would suggest to look into those and pick one that you like. When it comes to small layouts and your wishlist, there are not a lot of options. There is only so much hou can do in a small space therefor 'your' ideal design is probably already put there. You just need to find it.
