How does it feel with the infamous “bump” where it goes from seat back, to the trunk? Been thinking about doing a build honestly, but if I can get around having to make something I will.

With the exped air mattress I don’t notice it. My first time sleeping in the car I had a 3 or 4 inch memory foam mattress from Amazon and I was able to feel it then.

I went car camping and slept in my crosstrek this weekend. I followed some tips of yours. I got the exped megamat 15 and it was nice and thick but a little to wide for my liking. I had to put both seats to the very front. Still contemplating if i want to keep the 15 or exchange for the 10.. 🤔 I turned off the alarms so that when I unlock my vehicle, it doesn't make noise.
@outdoorsunknown
@outdoorsunknown 2 ай бұрын
I think the 10 in regular wide would work best in this situation because for me there is no need to push up the other seat. I also think the thickness is perfect. Unless you really need the extra 2 inches of cushion, I’d exchange the 15 for the 10 and use the extra cash for other gear. I like to keep the alarm on my car just for the extra safety. I never thought about the noise it makes when unlocking, it makes me cringe now 😂

Loved seeing your set up! I'm working on one to leave up all summer for quick bug outs on a Friday. I've got an Outback. FYI, there are some great sleeping bags out there that aren't of the noisy, slickery material you don't like. I have one that is actually a two person bag and it's flannel and soft cotton. I'm in WY and CO for camping so even in the summer the nights can get pretty darned cold. Blankets will never keep me as warm as my bag. Love the color of your Fozzy!

My wife and I camp in the back of our Crosstrek using a Luno mattress. I've thought about a rooftop tent, and I curious with you having camped both ways, which do you prefer, the back of the car or the rooftop tent?
@outdoorsunknown
@outdoorsunknown 7 ай бұрын
I personally prefer the back of my car. I feel more secure and since I camp with my dog it’s so much easier. Having to set up the ladder with her ramp so she can get up and into the tent was such a hassle. If you camp in the back of your car, you can easily drive your car with making minor or no adjustments to your set up. With the roof top tent you have to completely break it down if you need to drive your car and then reset it once you’re back. I found this annoying when I was staying at a site for multiple days and wanted to explore the area.

I keep the driver side passenger seat (40 of the 60/40 split) free of anything and unfolded. It is where i get in and out of bed, do stuff more freely. I know most if not all uses it for more storage space. I do roadtrips by myself most times. In the times i have a friend with me i used that space for storage and also to make room for two people sleeping area.

how do you attach the back relfectix, mine keep faling apart, the back part
@outdoorsunknown
@outdoorsunknown 8 ай бұрын
Mine fall off too, so what I do is roll the window down a little, then slip the top portion of the reflectix out, then I roll the window up so it pinches the the reflectix and keeps it in place. It takes some trial in error but this is the best solution I’ve found. I hope it makes sense.

I have a dog that is about as big as yours and im thinking about getting a rooftop tent but how in the world do you get her up there with you???? Its me, my husband, my 90 pound dog and our 15 pound dog. Just worried about getting the dogs in there! I see you have a ramp you might use? Did you make it? Is it still hard?
@outdoorsunknown
@outdoorsunknown 8 ай бұрын
Hi! Sorry for the late reply but just in case you’re still wondering, yes the ramp I made to attach to the ladder and I just trained my dog to go up it by using treats. I got lucky because it didn’t take long for her to get it and not be scared. Since the ramp I made was too bulky I upgraded to the “desert armor Doggo RTT ramp” which is really light weight and I used the same process of using treats to lure her in. I’ve seen some people use a tarp and bungee cords to make a DIY ramp. I know some people just lift their dogs up but with heavier dogs like ours it’s impossible. But the ramps really make it a breeze.

Examples (not exact): "The Dometic jug is very convenient?" "My dog loves this dog bed?"
