Fantastic to see Gracefield again, i raced there back in the late 60s early 70s. Really enjoyed street racing with Onekawa in Napier as well then of course Levin Race track ! I raced a Honda CB77 305 bored to 350cc and MRD parts from Christchurch. Great memories thank you !

How awesome to rewatch this - I was there that weekend

I remember the rumble and feeling the ground vibrate when roche came past us down the front straight. My first introduction to WSB in real life. Amazing to feel the atmosphere and also to get to know lots of theses guys on a personal level. They were so approachable and so relaxed, being the last race of the season.

Not long after this at Oran park in Sydney Mick Doohan had his first SBK race & against all these guys , and won by 40 secs

That pre-race 2 crash was extremely costly for Davide Tardozzi. Before NZ the top 3 in the standings were: David Tardozzi (86) Fred Merkel / Fabrizio Pirovano (83.5) And after NZ?? Merkel (99) Pirovano (93.5) Tardozzi (91.5) Tardozzi would never win another World Superbike race again and he would only finish on another 3 podiums

I was marshalling at 2nd corner both years they had it the crash in f1 a rider was killed and as such they never held a race at gracefield again

What a great find on KZbin, .. i watched Ivan ride many times at my home track at Blunsdon Abbey Stadium, home of the Swindon Robins in England. He had many a battle with his fellow New Zealander and local hero for me Barry Briggs, Ivan was the one guy who seemed to get the better of Barry who was practically unbeatable on his home track. Thanks for this upload stu.

my oldest speedway memory is ivan the week after he won in 1971 ,he was on the tractor with the trophy for a parade lap at hackney stadium

RIP Ivan absolute legend, my oldest cusan Jeff Mott great mate an fellow racer , they both had a exbition race Gold Coast speedway about 2006 , with some A,B riders which where blown away of their talent at 65 yrold, still full throttle, legend, sadly I missed the action.

This is brilliant! Why? I’ve got a RC30 that I’ve only just put back together after more than a decade of not running. Hearing them again in their proper enviroment is music to my ears and brings back so many memories of that era.

Wow, I had forgotten about the ZX9. I think it was out around the same time as the CBR900 but was over 20% heavier!

Really enjoyed! Loved seeing original 87 CBR600 Hurricanes in there too. Thanks from US ( now divided states)

Thanks for posting. I prefer the look of 80s and early 90s race bikes. My US favorites Yamaha FZR400, Honda RC30, 1989 Suzuki GSX-R750

The guy on the EF was a hero, they were nowhere near as good as a GPZ for handling but they did have tons of stomp out of turns whereas the GPZ had to be revved. My old man had an EF which I borrowed occasionally, at age 17, and one occasion was the street drags (dad had no idea) where it did a 10.97 @ 127mph. It was stock on standard pipes and I was rolling off in second at only 3000 revs because it lit up with any more. They did have good front end grip but the exhausts ground up the front and that was a sure way to run wide. And speed up your heart rate. And that old thing would indicate 240 at times.

Reminds me on Irish/Isle of Man/Ulster-road-races. Railway-crossing, spectators very close...You better not imagine what could happen when a rider falls at high speed and the bike goes somewhere out of control. But this is no condemnation, just a thought.
