I clean the upstream sensor and now the car doesn't run rich anymore...no codes.... My friend replaced both sensors and got rid of his catalytic I imagine cleaning the downstream would probably have the same effect.

I also have the bucking issue on a 2016 Equinox with 2.4L engine. I've done the following: oil change (with filter), monitoring oil and antifreeze levels, replace vvt solenoids, replace valve cover gasket, clean valve cover and pcv, replace spark plugs, replaced a broken pcv hose, clean throttle body. Issue is still happening, though the car seems to run very smooth now (except when idling after stopping.) My next step is to replace the ignition coils and clean the injectors. I'm open to other suggestions.

Why cut and splice the + cable??? Replace the whole wire and you don't have to worry about open circuits later on. Butt splices are more problems than help. Make sure you post the video about it not starting in a few months and you are broke down on a dark road at night. You are a glutton for punishment.

Nice video thanks. Also just FYI the same part in Hyundai is 83$ while at KIA dealer is 43$ if you want to go genuine. I've been doing this with other parts as well. Example the trans fluid at Hyundai is 40$ per 1qtr while at KIA is 17$, huge difference when you buy 5qtr. KIA and Hyundai use same parts. The Sonata is the same as Optima

Hey buddy does the turbo have to be removed if I wanted to remove just the head? Or can I unbolt the studs and nuts from where the turbo mounts to the head and slide the head off?

You can disconnect the turbo from the head. There are a couple nuts that are a pain to get to on the exh manifold. There is also a couple of coolant lines you have to disconnect.

It also helps if you remove all of the plastics and metal by the windshield. You get plenty of room to work at it from the top. I have a video on removing the engine from the top that shows it. You can leave the turbo connected to the cat and slide the head out.

Awesome bro this is such a sigh of relief man I have a head gasket I need to do and identifix says I need to remove the whole turbo charger. FUCK THAT! 😂 I’m glad I can just unbolt it from the head man. If I’m not mistaken is this year excluded from the lower block coolant slits. Or is this year affected as well? ​@@RainsMobileMechanic you may find it easier to take the turbo out anyway, just depends how much room you want to work with. Im not sure about the coolant issue. You will need new crush washers if you remove the oil feed line.

On my 2003 escape all starts with P2197 then cylinder 4&6 misfire :( Find no leaks, cleaned sensors , changed injectors etc. O my both reads are at = 0 FUEL = CL FAULT ECT = 76 SPARK ADV = 7-12

What are your fuel trims reading? 2197 is Lean, which means there is more oxygen than fuel to obtain the 14.7:1 it desires. Do you have a smoke machine? That is really the best way to detect an air leak.

@@elvrolet Not familiar with this Data, hard start, after warm it can cause a vacuum hose, pvc tube, to blow off. LONG FT1= 0 graphic % 14-24 LONG FT2 = 0 graphic % 700 -800 while driving always 2x #1 I sprayed lot of carb cleaner and soap water, no change or detection.

Question ❓ why is that one so hard to get off when the OEM slipped right off when I took the bolt off? Is the balancer supposed to go on in one position and why doesn't it have a key way to make sure it's timed with the camshaft? I just had the engine replaced and I thought the AC compressor had locked up because I smells a rubber smell and it stopped charging water pump start turning everything along those lines and when I went to take the belts off is when I realized that the pulley was turning freely even though the bolt was on and tight? I'm really confused why this is set up the way it is. Just not making sense.

The keyless crank in my opinion is a bad design. They do this because they are using other items to time the engine, then freely spin the crank into position to line up with the crank sensor. The Dorman crank pulley is just not the right fit. I don't know how they get away with saying it fits these cars. Once you press the pulley on, you can't adjust it, so if it is misaligned in any way you are screwed.

@@elvrolet why does the valve cover have to come off to put a new Harmonic balancer on it? The guys that repaired my engine said they put a short block in it. It took the. 6 months to do it. Now the balancer failed and the serpentine belt won't turn all the things it drives because the crank is turn but the pulley is not. $8700 I spent for the replacement but now it's dead on the side of the road and they are telling me that if I put a new Harmonic balancer on it with removing the valve cover it will bend valves. Basically everything I know about engines and I know a lot about them they're telling me does not is not in effect on this particular car which is blowing my mind and they want $1,200 to put a new balancer on there because they have to pull the valve cover and reset the timing. Why is pulling them balancer off going to mess with the timing if the timing chain and gears have not been touched or moved? Sorry I'm trying to get them to repair it but I don't even think that they put a block in it It doesn't look like they did and I'm being screwed with right now and I'm not happy I just need any type of answer because I everything I know about engines they're telling me it does not it's not the same on this particular car.

@@DGiese-sv4by These Ford engines (Range Rover, Mazda, others) are timed in several ways. They are not traditionally timed as most engines had been in the past. The valve cover comes off because there is a tool that aligns the intake and exhaust camshafts at TDC. There is another tool that locks the Crankshaft in place (looks like a bolt). There is another tool that aligns the Harmonic Balancer (crank pulley) with the Crankshaft Position sensor (CKP). All of these things have to be aligned at the same time before locking everything down and putting into service. As far as your mechanic doing all of this work previously and all of the sudden the crank pulley separated and is just spinning, that is curious. Did they use the old pulley, did they use a Dorman? Your sales receipt may show what they charged you for. There are several youtube videos you can reference about timing the Ford 2.0 turbo. They are basically the same as Mazda speed 3/ speed 6 as well with slight variations.

@@elvrolet it was the harmonic balancer/dampener/rubber part that failed. So it would not turn the serpentine belt causing nothing to work that the belt drives. I thought that the AC compressor locked up so when I took the belt off and spun all the pulleys by hand is when I realized that the crank was spinning but the pulley was not. So the timing chain should still be in the correct spot to time the crank and the cams. But what position should the pulley be in so that the crank sensor is reading the cranks position and that it is in the correct place.

@@DGiese-sv4by You would need to do the entire timing process to ensure the crank is aligned with the crank sensor. Be sure to buy a Ford pulley.

Great video! Appreciate all the effort it took you to take out the engine which helps to answer my question about the location of the Tubro Boost Solenoid. I'm holding on to the replacement part and it looks exactly like your Wastegate Control Solenoid (1:15 mark). The replacment part looks nothing else like your Boost Solenoid (1:40 mark). I too have the 2013 Ford Edge 2.0L. Is it possible that there are two different kinds of Edges of the same year/engine type? Or perhaps your Boost Solenoid is not OEM? Everything else looks spot on.

Thanks for the inquiry. 1:15 mark - Ford part # BL3Z-9K378-A is for the "Solenoid assembly- Turbo Control" according to Ford Parts Giant. It is called Turbocharger Boost Pressure Sensor" according to Haynes manual. 1:40 mark - Ford part # CB5Z-9E882-A is for the "Control Assembly - EGR Solenoid Valve" according to Ford Parts Giant. Both of these items on this vehicle are the Ford OEM genuine parts. Hope this helps.

Hey when you are putting everything back can you just replace the fuel pump fuse and all the spark plugs etc and start it, or do you need to replace fuse and crank it some to get air out of the fuel line or anything?

With the high pressure fuel pump it takes a few times of cranking the car before it builds up enough pressure to allow it to start. This car had the longest cranking of any that I've worked on and it made me think something was wrong at first. But it just needed longer cranking to build pressure. I ended up watching with a scan tool to verify it was building pressure.

​@elvrolet No codes at all. Was driving fine. Later the night when I wanted to move my car battery was dead. Cluster lights dimmed and my car cranks slow as if his dying. Tried to jump start it still nothing. Got a new battery the next day installed it. Everything thing turns on. It cranks but wont start. Search codes and it gave me Lost communication Gateway A- Lost communication with cluster and the Cam Crank Correlation. Cleared the codes didn't come back. But still no start. Right side windows also don't want to work. My RPM needle is stuck at 0 it doesn't move a bit. I don't know its wierd. How do you drive something without any faults or systems and then boom!

I'm having this same problem on a 2011 Hyundai sonata. Done the break light switch twice now. Cruise stops working and the ESC light turns on solid. Heres the thing, when i turned off my headlights and it didnt happen again the entire time. Turned them on and after a bit it came on again.

It is a very small space to fit a wrench. It's been a while since I did this so I don't have a memory of if a full size wrench will give you access. The oxygen sensor socket is just a better tool for the job to be sure it doesn't round out the edges. You could potentially cut the wires at the base of the sensor amd use a deep well socket to remove it (maybe).

throw the whoke engine away... been working on ecotech for a while now... literary just by the looke of ur green engine coolant i wouldnt take 5000 to open it....these engines are very strict on oil,maintenance, and coolant (the coolant should have been orange). get rid offf ittttttt

They don't expect you to twist it by the hose. For when you can't reach the gnurling of the brass hose fitting they have the pipes with the quick disconnect and rubber cone nipple. That's what you should have been using.

Got an acution special with this issue it wasnt appearant on test drive but once i filld up gas notice there wasnt a cap drove it about 10 miles starter shaking at a light felt like some one was pushing the car back and forth cheked engine light come on read codes p228d and p0089 visual inspection of the high pressure fuel pump looks brand new with brand new lines as well I've had same issue on other cars same code and an engine flush and oil change fixed the issue will inspect selenoids on the equinox before thinking on camphasers or high pressure fuel pump and sensors

Update replaced vvt selenoid appears to run better no more shaking for now no more code for pressure to high at sensor 1 for now

That's good news. Did you also change the oil and filter when you changed the vvt solenoid? Those little metal particles cause so many issues.

Yes, the coolant bottle has to come out to have enough room. I would recommend just removing the water pump assembly instead of messing with it this way. Be sure to order the new gaskets. Check out my other video on the thermostat details. Good luck.

Did the car have any fault codes for the heater system or the control valve? I'm having the exact same issue with no codes at all for the hvac system.

No codes or anything pointing to any problem. I think if the control valve would have had an electrical error it would have thrown a code, but since it was still "functional" the computer didn't have anything to report.

I have had this problem as well. Took it the dealer back in December 23. They couldn't find cause, suggested cleaning throttle body and out over $ 200.00 for this. Few weeks later engine blew and had replaced took 13 weeks. Just got the 2013 Sonata back on Monday. Been driving for 3 days no issues until today same issue, loss of power traction control light on. I have to let up on the gas pedal to be able to accelerate again. Thanks for the Info! Has this fixed your issue to date? Ted

Those shiny pliers told me what I needed to know really my friend let me tell you modern cars have A LOT of shit going on even in the dealership with manufacturer manual and $50ks+ worth of scanners sometimes it is really hard to pin point the issue for us You can easily spend years on KZbin searching this and that replacing half of the engine and getting no where If only you’d know how many cars we see the owner tried to DIY it and either has done things with no effect or made everything worse Also didn’t you say you’ve done compression test and there’s been a low compression in a cylinder!? I assume you haven’t don’t leak and/or wet test otherwise at least you’d know if there’s leak from valves or ring!! I know HPFP if absolutely rubbish on CDNB and it’s a good idea to replace it (with fuel pressure sensor) but in %99 of the times it ain’t gonna fix this engine’s legendary miss fire I hope you haven’t waste your money on new plugs , coils and timing 🤣
