Something I didn't grasp until I dated a Polish woman was the cultural importance of fertility. The impact of her ovaries are removed/atrophied and she wants them back didn't come through the same way. A thirty y/o Polish woman without children can get _lectured_ or even pitied by strangers. It's a _huge_ deal, culturally, for Yennifer to be sterile. To me it just seemed like a power exchange, one act of creation for another, but I had none of the cultural context.

Your English is excellent. You're even dropping the middle 't' in _important_ indicating recent linguistic bias, yet you get tripped up on some words and hit final 'g's which makes me think Polish is your milk-tongue. Certainly your experience sounds like a resident of Poland. I only mention it because I don't think I've ever heard someone switch so seamlessly before. I've had close friends from Poland who lived and worked for years in Canada and the UK who still have challenging accents. It's quite an accomplishment.

Trial of the grasses aside, isn't it established that Ciri can't use magic? That should include signs as well if I'm not mistaken.

I've never really understood the reputation Malazan has as being the hardest fantasy series, I remember finishing The Witcher series and going looking on forums and KZbin videos for something to fill the void left by finishing The Witcher and then coming across Malazan... I dove in headfirst and loved it from the beginning! Also I'm so surprised you didn't love the Bridgeburners from the get go, as I was reading I was constantly just wanting to get back to their chapters. That's not to say I wasn't enjoying the others because I loved all the chapters from all perspectives, ESPECIALLY anytime my boys Kruppe and Tool were present, but from the beginning the Bridgeburner chapters were a highlight for me! Also I feel like I don't ever see anyone gushing about the magic system and just how unique and fresh the concept of the warrens felt. Great video and I look forward to more Malazan content!

48:47 Funny thing, the stereotypical Wizard is based on the clothing of Medieval European Jews. Secular law dictated Jews must self-identify by wearing pointed hats. Jewish Law forbade men from shaving (razors are for slaughtering animals, and shall not touch a man's face). Robes were fairly common clothing, especially in a culture where conspicuous consumption was frowned upon.

While Triss is attractive I couldn't really forgive the way she took advantage of Geralts amnesia. So yeah Team Yen all the way!

My only concern, most of the devs of Witcher 3 left to form their own studio. So are these new devs going to be able to make a good Witcher game or are they going to flounder like a dying fish.

Loving your videos Wera! I'm also loving the way you're presenting yourself, the effort you put into your outfit, hair and makeup really stands out :) I hope you're having an amazing new year so far and that the end of last year was spent eating pierogies and halupki. I'm not polish, but I'm Ukrainian and knowing that both our cultures share a lot of the same foods, I know just how good our cuisine can be!

The problem I see with CD Project is that it is not the same one that gave us Witcher 3 (or even Cyberpunk). So much talent trickled away from them. Let's wait and see, but I'm afraid they are starting on the road Bioware will be ending soon.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the series! I didn't love Farseer when I read it and was frustrated by Fitz but throughly enjoyed liveships and loved tawny man after that. I'm looking forward to hearing what you think about ship of magic and any books if you end up continuing the series :) I hope you have a great rest of your day

30:45 Ard Skellig and Skellige are two different things (in the game at least). Didn’t watch the show so not sure if they were referring to Skellig as in the main island or if they were saying that Skellig was all the islands (Skellige)

Considering the things you don't like about this series, I suspect you'll like the Liveships a lot more. It has strong female characters, one just as annoying as Fitz in the beginning, but her growth is much more obvious. Also, the villian is much worse than Regal, but he gets his own perspective, so it's easier to follow the reasoning. And it's writing concept is much different with different perspectives. But I'll warn you, the 3rd trilogy is back to Fitz and the Fool. And yes, it stays slow and yes, Fitz still makes stupid mistakes. I'm a hugh fan of the series, it's in my top 3 of all time. But I'm much older then you (45) so I started reading this when I was a teen (16ish) and I love older fantasy series. The scope of the world will only get clear by the end of the Liveship books. The way the story is planned out, start to finish, the detail in planning is incredible. Also, I think Fitz' story reads as a dissection of trauma and trauma response. And the lenght and the slowness of the books emphasise that experience.

Frankly the team behind the Witcher 1, 2 & 3 are mostly gone I believe. I'm not gonna buy this because I think we had a satisfying ending to the Geralt, Yen and Ciri family dynamic. If they gave us a new game not related to the previous ones where we restored Kaer Morhen and rebuit the school of the wolf as an older Eskel, or a custom character that takes on the identity of Berengar, that'd have been cool.
